    About this experience

Begin your journey with a warm welcome and artisan coffee at a rustic farm shop before being collected from your hotel. Your day unfolds among rolling vineyards and wild landscapes: sip exquisite wines at a boutique estate, feel the ocean breeze on Muriwai’s dramatic black-sand shores, and arrive at Vineyard Cottages, a private vineyard retreat and home of The Big Foody Food Tours. Here, you are invited to slow down. Wander the vines with your hosts, discovering the stories of the land and its people. Taste New Zealand’s finest — elegant wines, small-batch gins, craft beers — alongside thoughtful non-alcoholic pairings created with the same attention to detail. As the afternoon lingers, gather for a gourmet barbecue prepared with seasonal produce, artisan cheeses, fresh seafood, and tender local meats. This is more than a tour; it is an invitation into the heart of New Zealand hospitality — generous, intimate, and unforgettable.

Spectacular Scenery And Even More Marvelous Food and Drink

The “Gourmet World” shore excursion from Holland America included this tour when we visited Auckland on our Grand Cruise. It was one of the best excursions I’ve ever enjoyed and certainly the most delicious. Bruce, our driver, was a marvelous host who drove us to enjoy coffee and snacks at Boric Food Market first, then we visited the incredibly scenic Maukatia Bay with breathtaking views of both the gannets (thousands it appeared) and the dramatic seaside. We then visited Ellie at her Vineyard cottages for the best luncheon ever (bear in mind we’ve been dining on fine food for 70+ days on ship, and this meal was far superior) We sampled local cheeses (I would have told you I hate blue cheese, but I loved this one.) Delicious and perfectly cooked salmon followed by the best lamb I’ve ever enjoyed. We tasted three wines (generous glasses I might add) After a walk around the cottages named for the aforementioned vinos, we were treated to a pavlova desert. I will not have dinner on the ship tonight. Ellie was delightful, knowledgeable, a great chef with a fabulous sense of humor. I learned a lot, had a great time and highly recommend this tour to anyone who likes good food and drink and wants to see some of the New Zealand countryside and spectacular scenery.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your lovely feedback! We did love meeting you!

This is the best experience ever.

Amazing! Elle, the welcoming host with a warm smile, expertly guided us through the experience, while Bruce, the knowledgeable driver and guide, shared fascinating insights along the way. Both of them were just incredible, making the entire journey smooth and memorable. The whole experience was truly perfect.

Response from the operator: Oh thank you! Loved meeting you all. It was such a great day.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Auckland.

How much does Gourmet Auckland Food Tour A Place at our Table cost?

    +

Is Gourmet Auckland Food Tour A Place at our Table worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 49 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable food & drink in Auckland, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Gourmet Auckland Food Tour A Place at our Table?

Is Gourmet Auckland Food Tour A Place at our Table suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Gourmet Auckland Food Tour A Place at our Table?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Auckland can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Auckland and add a light layer if any part of the 5.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Auckland?

    +

On Outty we rank every Auckland experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hobbiton & Waitomo Caves Guided Day Trip from Auckland incl lunch, Hobbiton Movie Set Small Group Tour with Cheeky Kiwi Travel, Hobbiton & Waitomo Glowworm Caves Tour with Lunch from Auckland. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Auckland?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Auckland?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
