      In commemoration of Holy Week, various parts of the island including the village of Zebbug hold traditional Good Friday processions in the late afternoon. These solemn processions showcase an awe-inspiring display of faith and devotion, where life-size statues are carried on the shoulders of bearers, from the parish church through the village streets. Brass bands play marches following the beautifully carved statues, some hundreds of years old, depicting the passion and death of Jesus Christ. Local villagers dress up as Roman soldiers, Jewish priests, and important Biblical characters, depicting pivotal moments from the life and passion of Our Lord.
