Adventure Sixty North
The canvas-covered log framed structure where we pan for gold is located just across from our walking bridge, between our office and the gift shop. Depending on the salmon run, we can often spy salmon in the creek. The covered troughs allow us to stay dry while panning, which makes this the perfect activity, rain or shine!

Fun and informative
We had a fun hour panning for gold with Adventure Sixty North. When we arrived we were informed that we had booked for the next day. The staff were so nice and accommodating, fitting us in at the last minute. Zea was so friendly and knowledgeable and you wouldn’t have know she got pulled off from what she was doing at the last minute to be with us, When she had to leave the operations manager (whose name escapes me ) filled in for her. Both were so kind and friendly and knowledgeable. Adventure Sixty North you have two great employees!

Our experience panned out
Fun authentic Alaska experience! Our guide/driver, Zaya, was super friendly and knowledgeable about the gold history and panning technique. We found gold and some little semi precious stones!

Nice kid explained what...
Nice kid explained what to do but we only got one bag and was done in 20 mins- certainly didn’t need an hour- not much found in our bags.

A very enjoyable experience with a wonderful guide!
My two teenagers and I attended a gold panning session one rainy afternoon in July. The site was a quick drive from Seward with clear instructions on how to get there. We checked in at the office cabin, and both workers were very friendly to chat with us and ask us how our time in Seward has been. My daughter loved the office dog which was a Golden, of course! The gold panning area was set up under a tent roof, and there was also no need to wear boots as the ground was dry. Our guide, Joe, was the perfect person for the job. Joe was personable and knowledgeable. He gave us a quick history of the Seward gold rush and was funny when he described how the miners would put their pans to multiple uses. Joe was approachable and fielded our many questions. He was excited each time one in the group would shout Eureka! If asked, he also helped the "weary prospectors" sift their sand for treasures towards the end. All "prospectors" found real gold flakes and other gems to take home in a small vial. Joe even showed us a moose antler that he had found on a recent hike! He passed it around, and we all got to inspect it. The nine of us in our session were having so much fun that he allowed us to stay several minutes past the scheduled time. Joe's friendliness greatly enriched our experience!

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Seward.
How much does Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska cost?
+
Prices start at $34 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Seward usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Seward is not rushed.
Is Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 53 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Seward, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska?
+
Around 19 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Seward can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Seward and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Gold Panning in Seward, Alaska start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Seward within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Seward?
+
Seward is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park: day cruises to tidewater glaciers, whale and puffin watching, glacier hikes on Exit Glacier and halibut charters. On Outty we rank every Seward experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kenai Fjords National Park Glacier & Wildlife Cruise, Full-Day Kenai Fjords National Park Northwestern Cruise, Full-Day Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Seward?
+
Late May to early September. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Seward?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
