Difficult to understand tour guide
The tour was disappointing because the guide’s English was very difficult to understand. Important cultural terms like “geisha” and “maiko” were repeatedly mispronounced, which made the explanations confusing. Too much time was spent showing iPad photos of minor details, like different bamboo fence styles, instead of focusing on the sites and history. The guide seemed friendly, but the tour did not feel well suited for English-speaking visitors and was hard to follow overall.

We had the honor of having the wonderful Junko for our guide! She took us through very traditional neighborhoods in the Gion district and we visited many beautiful shrines there too. She also took us to picturesque locations and took our picture. Overall, this tour with her is a must-have in order to get a deeper look and view into Gion’s history and Gaisha perspective.
