About this experience

A Buried Village The locals say that this village was last inhabited by the people of Al Kutbi tribe. The houses that you see here, date back to the 80’s. Now, the entire village including houses, mosques and vehicles are covered in sand, hence the name ‘Buried Village’. Well, one can say that sand and extreme forces of nature have invaded this village.

What you'll see and do

  1. WHAT TO SEE AT AL MADAM GHOST TOWN The abandoned village of Al Madam Ghost Town is made of 2 rows of houses and a mosque at the far end of the village. All houses have succumbed to the shifting sands and the harsh realities of desert life. In some places you can still see the decorative flooring and the wall painting, but in some rooms the sand climbed so high you won’t be able to enter. Some say it is spooky to visit this ghost town, personally we thought it was quite peaceful. Once inhabited by Al Kutbi tribe members, it is unclear why the town has been abandoned: some say it is a “jinn” (a supernatural creature in Islamic mythology) that drove people away, some say it is simply the harsh weather. Al Madam Ghost Town wouldn’t make UAE’s must-see list, but it is still an interesting excursion to take if you have the time.

Do Not Book

Booked this tour hoping to see a ghost town, turns out the real ghost was the tour itself. No driver, no message, no number that works. I sat in the lobby like a lost suitcase waiting for a pickup that never came. Even Viator couldn’t reach them. If you enjoy being ignored and abandoned with zero explanation, this is the tour for you. Otherwise, book literally anything else.

A nice stop over when traveling in the desert.

It’s an interesting place on the way to Fujairah or Dibba. We spent about 40 minutes in the location, it’s a good stop over. They’ve got a few art objects in the desert village, almost fully covered with sand. They have right and sound installations concrete tent and a couple of other art objects.

I would never use this company again.

• 8am booking - they turn up at 11:20am • Tour guide? Nope • Sat on his phone entire time whilst driving. • Very unprofessional company. • Did not get what I paid for. I really would NOT recommend this company for your tours.

Excellent service

Our tour guide, Yusuf, came highly recommended by the Al Badayer Resort which drove us to the villas and told us a bit about the history of the village.

Not Your Typical Ghost Town

Al Madam Ghost Town is very much underrated. This place is awesome of you have a 4WD! Just make sure you have a shovel in the car or that your car has a "crawl" option. This is usually available in FJ's. The place is very peaceful. You can see a mosque, villas that are half covered in sand and an entry gate that looks like a frame. You can visit this place via 2 entrances. Where Google Map took us was an andveturous path. However, there is another way that does not require a lot of obstacle courses and this will lead you to that frame. Do not expect anybtpilet. Make sure you akready do your business before reaching this place.

Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Dubai.

How much does Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam cost?

+

Prices start at $264 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Dubai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Dubai is not rushed.

Is Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 40 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.3/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Dubai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Dubai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Dubai and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ghost Town Sharjah Tour | Buried Village of Al Madam start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Dubai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Dubai?

+

On Outty we rank every Dubai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Dubai Premium Red Dunes Safari, Camels & 5* BBQ at Al Khayma Camp, Dubai: Red Dunes Safari, Quad, Camel, Dune Bash, BBQ & Shows, Dubai Dune Buggy Safari Tour in Red Dunes Options. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Dubai?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Dubai?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
