    About this experience

【Private tour by a local guide】 I was born and grew up near Fushimi Inari Taisha. I am not a foreigner. So I have known the Fushimi Inari shrine since I was a boy. Now Fushimi Inari shrine is one of the most popular places to visit, but there are too many people around and it is like an amusement park. I would like you to feel the nature and peace here as the locals used to. I am a local who knows this mountain's courses very well and many beautiful hiking paths are hidden, they are not on the official map. If you like to know places that are not crowded in Kyoto, feel free to ask me. Welcome any questions about Japan, Shrine, & Zen Buddhism as well. I also own my tour agency, Tour Bench Inc. since 2011. Consider coming on my Tour of Kyoto. I offer a variety of tours. 【How much exercise 】 Fushimi Inari shrine is a super big mountain so we have to take the stairs or a hilly way to reach the top. The height is about 200 meters so it is not quite a high mountain. Bring some water:)

    What you'll see and do

    1. Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine

Let's hike a beautiful unknown way to Fushimi Inari shrine, inside a big mountain. There are so many paths including a dangerous way to higher sites. Nowadays the main roads are extremely crowded and have no peace, although it is a spiritual place. I will show you a secret path with bamboos at the backside of the shrine. In other places, bamboo streets are a famous Japanese symbol that is full of tourists, too. But here I can show you that it is not like that. Fushimi Inari shrine had been a silent and calm place for many years until it became as famous as it is today. But there is still some territory that has not yet been discovered by tourists because it is not easy to find it by them and once you got lost there, it would be hard to come back. It is the way locals take, and I will show you. If you have a request for your most convenient time or date, feel free to ask me to adjust my schedule. I'll flexibly fit your schedule. Any requests on short notice are welcome too. Also, consider coming on my Tour in Kyoto (http://www.tourbench.info/). I offer a variety of tours.

A great mind and body workout

I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the area. You will see and learn more and navigate around the tourist throngs more effectively. We lucked out and got a chance to meet with the owner of a 100 year old cherry blossom tree and the 80 year old maker of the wooden gates in his workshop. Yes the steps to the top are a lot but that is part of the fun of the journey.

    +

Prices start at $327 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does 【Fushimi inari shrine】A local born in Kyoto shares the secret path away tourists take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.

Is 【Fushimi inari shrine】A local born in Kyoto shares the secret path away tourists worth it?

    +

Can I cancel or reschedule 【Fushimi inari shrine】A local born in Kyoto shares the secret path away tourists?

Is 【Fushimi inari shrine】A local born in Kyoto shares the secret path away tourists suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book 【Fushimi inari shrine】A local born in Kyoto shares the secret path away tourists?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does 【Fushimi inari shrine】A local born in Kyoto shares the secret path away tourists start and how do I get there?

What are the best things to do in Kyoto?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Gion Make Your Own Chopsticks with Engraving Option, Award-Winning Authentic Ramen Making Experience in Kyoto, Hidden Kyoto E-Biking tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
