A Great Way to Explore Vancouver Island - Highly Recommended

We have hired trucks which are similar to those from Far Out Wilderness in Africa so are familiar with the idea of sleeping on the roof and cooking out of the back of a truck. It suits us very well as you are fairly mobile having a normal sized truck but have the flexibility of a mobile home. We hired the truck from Far Out Wilderness for 12 days and drove up to Port Hardy and back staying in basic camp sites. The truck is much better than those we have hired in Africa even though some of those were brand new. The big difference is that Sam who runs the business goes camping himself and has used his experience to make sure the truck has everything you need. The cooker, fridge and BBQ are first rate and the utensils etc are high quality and it has everything you need. The truck generated a great deal of interest on our travels, it seems there are not many like it in Canada. I have no hesitation in recommending Far Out’s service which was first rate.

Amazing experience exploring off the beaten path on the Sunshine Coast

We first explored Vancouver in September in Roxanne, and loved it so much we came back at the end of October for more! This time we explored the Sunshine Coast. The truck is so well equipped that once we loaded the fridge with groceries we were able to get out and explore the back country for days. We couldn't believe how few people were out enjoying BC's beauty, it was like we had our own private lakes and campgrounds, as the Rec Sites we stayed at had no one else there (and they were all free!) Since it was our second trip, Sam arranged contactless pickup at the airport in Abbotsford and we were ready to roll the minute our plane touched down. Camped in a different location every night, and tent setup and takedown took less than five minutes, great design. I highly recommend Far Out Wilderness, from the beginning Sam made everything easy, provided all the information we needed and responded quickly to any questions we had. The truck is equipped with quality camping equipment and took us to some incredible places. We are already dreaming of coming back!

Everything we needed for a beautiful adventure

We loved the whole experience of working with FarOut Wilderness to support our 6-day trip up and down Vancouver Island. The itinerary they helped craft was extraordinarily helpful. It allowed us to head safely into remote, hard-to-reach landscapes, and then roll comfortably into well-chosen campsites and parks. The modded 4x4 Tacoma was essential for the back roads, as well as perfectly kitted out for our crew of four - and it satisfied the various needs of travelers spanning three generations. We appreciated all of the experience FarOut brought to the outfitting, gear selection, safety, and planning. We all slept and lived well out on the road, and would have loved to stay out for another week. We'd work with them again in a heartbeat.

Highly Recommend!

Having this truck made our backroad weekend adventure such a breeze... it was fully equipped with all the things we needed for easy cooking and comfortable sleeping, and the attention to details beyond the basics were very apparent . The tent also withstood a proper West Cost windy downpour on night one. HIGHLY recommend this rental.

Response from the operator: Thanks so much Kristine, we are glad that Roxanne made your adventure easy and comfortable.

Explore the wilder side of Vancouver Island.

Put this on your bucket list!! Such a fun way to explore this corner of the world. Give yourself plenty of time...the Island is bigger than you think, but even the drives are stunning. There will be places where you are out of cell service, so be sure your map skills are on point. Sam is a treasure...a knowledgeable and attentive guide available to help with any questions or itinerary advice. Forested mountains, lush glades, big trees, rugged coastline, cobblestone beaches. Highly recommend!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much Kim, so happy you all had a great time, it was a pleasure to host you.

Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vancouver Island.

How much does Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island cost?

+

Prices start at $923 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vancouver Island usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island take?

+

Plan for about 72 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vancouver Island is not rushed.

Is Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Vancouver Island, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island?

+

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 72-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vancouver Island can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vancouver Island and add a light layer if any part of the 72-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Fully Equipped Overland Vehicle Hire on Vancouver Island start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vancouver Island within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Vancouver Island?

+

On Outty we rank every Vancouver Island experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Whistler Tour from Vancouver + Sea to Sky Gondola + Shannon Falls, Victoria Guided Food and History Tour, Victoria Whale and Wildlife Cruise. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Vancouver Island?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Vancouver Island?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
