Miradouro Da Lagoa Do Fogo
The Lagoon of Fire is one of the most impressive natural treasures on the island of São Miguel. It is a lagoon of volcanic origin that has been protected as a Natural Reservation since 1974. It is located in the interior of the island of São Miguel, at the bottom of the crater of an extinct volcano, within the great volcanic mass of the Serra de Água de Pau. This lagoon is the highest on the island, about 575 meters above sea level. In addition, it is very large; it measures approximately 2 km long and 1 km wide, with a total area of 1,360 hectares.
