What you'll see and do

  1. The Alternative Rainbow mountain of Palcoyo is one of the best options for those who do not like to walk much. not only because the walk is shorter but because we will see more than 3 Mountains of Colors, walking only 30 to 45 minutes. Another advantage that this attraction has is that it is little visited, it is not crowded as in Vinicunca Mountain. In addition, this route has additional attractions, which are the great views of the Andes mountain range and the Ausangate Mountain as well as a forest of naturally formed stones for thousands of years. Being short the walk, compared to the classic mountain, in this place there are no horses to be rented.

As an avid landscape...

As an avid landscape photographer, we booked this tour instead of the regular Rainbow Mountain tour to avoid large crowds. There are no horses and bikes to rent so you need to do some walking. We are both over 65 and our guide was great in encouraging us to walk up at our own pace, nice and easy. It was exhilirating when we reached the 4900 meters viewpoint, what an amazing photogenic spots! We bought couple light and warm hand weaved pure Alpaca toques on our way down from a local lady. The price was good as the same toques would cost 3 times as much in Cusco. We would like to thank our guide for keeping us safe. A job well done! Without him, we doubt we can ever achieve our goal in reaching that amazing 4900m viewpoint.

Rainbow Mountain Review

Anibal was an amazing tour guide. He was super friendly and helpful and made our experience great. The route to the mountain was brilliant and the climb wasn’t too bad. The views was incredible I would 100% recommend!

Lifetime memory

I went to the Palccoyo Rainbow Mounteen with a private tour. They come for me to my hotel in Cusco in the exact time. The tour was really beautifull not only at Palccoyo, but from Cusco to Palccoyo and back also, because the route goes between very nice hills. On the way to there we stoped for a breakfast, and on the way back for a lunch, in the same restaurant. At Palccoyo the walking route wasn’t steep, it was a really nice walk, the problem for me was only the breathing, because we started the walk at 4600 m, and finished at 4900 m. So we had to stop often to relax a little. My guide Anibal was a very caring and nice guy, he helped me in everything., thank you so much for him for this nice tour.

Best tourist experience I've had

Surreal place. The climb requires a little effort if you climb on foot, however, there are horses and motorbikes available that take the visitor approximately 500m from the top. Affordable prices.

Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cusco.

How much does Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain cost?

+

Prices start at $138 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cusco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain take?

+

Plan for about 13 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cusco is not rushed.

Is Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 13-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 13-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Full Day Tour to Palccoyo, Alternative Rainbow Mountain start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cusco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cusco?

+

On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cusco?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cusco?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
