Excavation of the site reveals that it was used extensively for rituals, which probably involved animal sacrifice. Especially of interest at Tarxien is that stone rollers left outside the South temple were probably used for transporting the megaliths.

If they had actually picked me up, I could write this to
Well, I would love to write this tour however they failed to pick me up and I spent the entire day trying to communicate with them by phone and by messaging and by email trying to figure out what happened and how we can reschedule because tomorrow is my last day in Malta. I have heard nothing.

Taxien Temples and ordinary Maltese life
We joined Linda and a coach load of tourists for a tour to the Taxien temples, the Blue Grotto and the traditional fishing village. The swim opportunity was not possible because of the weather; well, it was winter. Instead we had extra time at the village. My favourite part was the visit to the temples. Prehistory is obviously a favourite topic for Linda and her knowledge and enthusiasm added value to the visit; better than reading info boards

All the Top Sites In Malta In One Day
It was a fun day of seeing the main sites in southern Malta. I could not have done it on my own. Our guide Daiva was great (knowledgeable, efficient, friendly, & organized)! This tour has a lot of variety with approx 1 hour per stop. Historic temple ruins of Hal Tarxien. Zetjun church & museum (beautiful). Il-Kalanka cove (opportunity to swim or just enjoy the clear blue water/waves), Marsaxlokk harbor (cute town with marketplace, lots of boats, church, cafes; we had time for lunch there), & Blue Grotto (the extra 10 Euro cost for the boat ride [25-min long] is a must-do! It takes you to six coves/caves with amazingly blue water [sit on the front left side for best photo ops] [10 euro CASH ONLY, no credit cards]). I was smiling at the end of the tour & thanked the guide for a great tour. Note: for me, I was picked up in Valletta with others and taken to Sliema where we changed to a larger bus to start the tour; at the end at Blue Grotto, we were split in 2 groups for Valletta & Sliema drop-offs. 18 people on my tour. Highly recommended tour.

Use Hello Malta to book your trips!
This tour is very good, you get to see many places of interest and the blue grotto at the end was beautiful, sadly the sea was rough today so we could not do a boat trip to see the grotto up close but didn’t ruin the trip. I have booked 3 tours with hello Malta, they were opposite my hotel and Marilyn was lovely and knowledgeable about all the trips. I settled on Gozo and blue lagoon (amazing a must do) 1/2day to Mdina (again amazing trip loads of destinations of wonderful Malta) Mario and Michael were the tour guides and they were both fantastic people and made the tours even better.

Not the best day
First of all, they were late more than 30 min for pickup. Second of all, there was written that we'd spend about 1 hour in each place, but we spent less. It should have been a full-day trip, but we came back to the hotel at about 5 p.m. However, the guide - Maria - was great :)
Response from the operator: Dear Jurate, This is a Full Day Excursion, that's why you were picked up around 0900 hrs and tour finished around 1700 hrs. Program was done as written. In Malta sometimes we experience heavy traffic that's why we arrived late... it's something that we can't control.

How much does Full Day to Blue Grotto, Marsaxlokk, Kalanka Bay, Tarxien Temples cost?

How long does Full Day to Blue Grotto, Marsaxlokk, Kalanka Bay, Tarxien Temples take?

Is Full Day to Blue Grotto, Marsaxlokk, Kalanka Bay, Tarxien Temples worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 51 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.7/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Valletta, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

How far in advance should I book Full Day to Blue Grotto, Marsaxlokk, Kalanka Bay, Tarxien Temples?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Valletta can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Valletta and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Valletta?
+

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Valletta?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Valletta?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
