Hike up to enlightenment
Meeting place was convenient as my hotel was nearby. My guide Endo was informative and friendly and our driver was great, very personable and kind. Due to weather Endo suggested we switched the order of our sight-seeing - the long and can be challenging Togakushi (five shrines) first then head to snow monkey park later in the afternoon. The hike to the shrines surrounded by old cedar trees were serene and spectacular. We did many prayers this day and it is good for much enlightenment and reflection. The hike to the snow monkey park wasnt as difficult and we saw so many of them this sunny day! Lunch was good. A variety of tempura, sushi and a steamed vegetable and your choice of protein was being done at the table. Enjoyed the day, the exercise and the views. Highly recommend!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the detailed review, Jeanne! We are thrilled to hear that you had such a serene and enlightening day. Endo will be delighted to know that his thoughtful decision to adjust the itinerary for the weather made your hike through the majestic Togakushi cedar trees and your visit to the snow monkeys so enjoyable. We are also glad you loved the delicious lunch and the company of our driver. Thank you for exploring Nagano with us, and we hope to welcome you back again soon!

Snow monkeys and Togakushi with guide Endo
Thank you to our guide Endo and our driver for an amazing visit of the snow monkeys and Togakushi shines. We learned a lot from our friendly guide and he answered all our questions. The timing was very good for both sites and lunch. We weren’t rushed. We went in August right after an overnight rainstorm and there were many monkeys and babies. Hanging out with the monkeys was a highlight for the teenager in our group. The cedar path was the highlight for me. It was worth the money for the professional guide, efficient transportation, and reliability. We were there during the summer holiday week and it was still not too crowded.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that you and your teenager had such an amazing time visiting the snow monkeys and the stunning cedar path at Togakushi Shrine. Endo and our driver will be delighted to know their friendly guidance and smooth organization made your summer holiday trip so memorable. Thank you for choosing us, and we would love to welcome you back for another tour whenever your travels bring you back to Japan!

The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Nagano?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Nagano?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
