What you'll see and do

  1. Temple of Philae

The Temple of Isis was one of the last ancient Egyptian temples to remain active. All of these monuments were moved from the original Philae Island to the nearby island of Agilkia during the UNESCO Nubia Campaign in the 1960s to save sites flooded by the construction of the Aswan High Dam.

  2. Aswan High Dam

The Nile used to flood every year in the summer. The floods were unpredictable and often caused damage. It was therefore considered necessary to make them manageable by means of a dam. The High Aswan dam is one of the world's largest embankment dams, which was built between 1960 and 1970.

  3. Unfinished Obelisk

The unfinished obelisk was discovered in the early 1900s after being covered in sand for thousands of years. Supposedly commissioned by Queen Hatshepsut (c. 1473–1458 BC) for the Temple of Amun at Karnak, work was halted due to defects in the stone and the presence of multiple cracks. When completed, it would have weighed 1168 tons and stood at a height of about 42 meters, taller than any other ancient Egyptian obelisk.

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
