    Beat the crowds!

If you want to beat the crowds and have a real personable experience with all the sites to yourself, Around and About Tours is the way to go. Our guide Walter got us all up super early to hit the road before all the other tourists. We also did the tour in reverse, which meant we were pretty much the only ones at each destination. Walter is very intelligent and has all the inside local knowledge and is an excellent story teller. He knew all the best stops to visit and we were super lucky on our tour because we even saw wild kangaroos, koalas and parrots along our way. Walter is always on the lookout for animals that might pop up - he slowed down and pointed out a wallaby and a kookaburra while we were driving between destinations. We needed an extra toilet stop and Walter knew all the toilet stops along the way. We felt really cared for by our guide Walter and will be recommending the tour to our friends and family. We did the one day tour but the two day tour would be even better - Walter has the best itinerary!

Great Ocean Road - Full Day Tour

We had a fantastic day with our tour guide Walter. Very knowledgable about the area and its history. He was even kind enough to let us nap uninterrupted.

Some of the best scenery you've ever seen

This is one of the "must do" activities if you visit Melbourne, even if only for a few days. Yes, it's a lot of driving, and yes, not all of the drive is in pristine wilderness, but it's still worth it. We went with Oceana Tours and Safaris, and our driver/guide was Adam. He was wonderful, full of information, and sensitive to the needs of the group (translation: water and pee stops.) Once you're along the coast (perhaps 90 minutes into the tour), the coastline reminds one of California or Oregon. Tall cliffs, great surf spots, and small towns that cater to tourists but especially to surfers. The road then heads inland for perhaps 90 minutes, going through some eucalyptus forests that are spectacular. Once back on the coast, the tour goes to the 12 Apostles and London Bridge. I found that London Bridge was the more interesting site, and FAR less crowded than the viewing point for the Apostles. I would highly recommend Oceana Tours, and either Adam or Fred as your driver. Great blokes.

    The Great Ocean Road Trip

Our small group tour was as amazing as our driver Walter. We left early and got back late and covered so many picturesque locations along The Great Ocean Road. Walter communicated each stop highlights and time allocation clearly and it was just the right amount of time to see and enjoy and photograph each place and then head to the next. Walter told us he liked to get going early to beat the crowd and true to his word our captured photos were pristine shots of natural environments before most folks arrived. Beach walks, caves, rain forest walk, a stop at a little shopping village and a view of Bells Beach surfers were all part of our experience as well as the option of a helicopter trip over London Bridge and the Apostles. We took up the offer and saw a whale and calf as a bonus. We would completely recommend Walter and Around and About Tours and look forward to a future trip with them on our next visit to Melbourne. Heather and Jeff

Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Melbourne.

How much does Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne cost?

    +

Prices start at $189 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Melbourne usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne take?

    +

Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Melbourne is not rushed.

Is Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 18 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Melbourne, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 12-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne?

    +

Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Melbourne can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Melbourne and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Full-Day Great Ocean Road Tour from Melbourne start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Melbourne within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Melbourne?

    +

On Outty we rank every Melbourne experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Melbourne: Yarra Valley Wine, Gin, Whisky and Chocolate Tour, Yarra Valley Wine Tour w Exclusive Gin, Cider & Chocolate Tasting, Yarra Valley Wine Tour from Melbourne - Choc, Gin & Good Times. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Melbourne?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Melbourne?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
