Could be better
As day tours go, this wasn’t the best in all honesty. The instructions to meet in the morning strongly discouraged pick-ups from individual hotels and to meet in a designated central hotel to save time. We were the only ones who complied with this so were disappointed when we got picked up, just to then spend another hour and 15 minutes picking everybody else up from their hotels. When we finally did set off for Christ the Redeemer, the first stop on the tour, we practically passed our hotel. The driver of our minibus drove erratically the whole day, often swerving last minute behind cars so he could switch lanes, speeding then braking hard, making the journey not very enjoyable at all. Some of the places advertised on the itinerary were not properly visited. The description makes out like you spend a fair amount of time in some neighbourhoods but in actual fact, it’s two or three locations in one stop, so felt this was a little misleading. The positives were the buffet lunch and the tour guide, Quintos Campos, who had a lot of energy and who rearranged the order of seeing the sights so we had a better chance of visibility when up Sugarloaf Mountain, which we really appreciated.

Do not book the full-day tour during Carnival
We took the full-day tour in Rio on Saturday, February 14. The package included lunch and visits to multiple attractions throughout the day. Unfortunately, the experience did not match what was advertised. Due to Carnival street closures, the tour was significantly cut short. I completely understand that Carnival creates logistical challenges and that certain streets may be closed. However, this is a known, predictable event. For that reason, this full-day tour should not be sold during Carnival if the itinerary cannot realistically be delivered. As visitors from outside Brazil, we were not aware that these closures are standard during Carnival. We assumed it was an isolated situation and trusted that if the tour was being offered, it could be fully executed. Pickup was also 30 minutes late with no communication or update, which was disappointing. Once everyone was on board, we were informed that only two of the seven advertised stops would be possible: Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf. While these are iconic highlights, they do not justify the price of a full-day tour that was marketed as a comprehensive city experience with multiple stops and lunch included. On a positive note, the guide and the driver were excellent—professional, friendly, and doing their best under the circumstances. My recommendation: do not book the full-day tour during Carnival. There is no realistic way to deliver the full itinerary during these festivities, and you will likely end up paying far more than the experience actually provided.
Response from the operator: Hi, how are you? Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations. We will contact you via WhatsApp to review the details and forward the situation to the responsible team. We’re here for any questions.

Great tour. Communication could improve
Great tour. Well organized and smoothly done. I was late due to lack of communication. Tour guide was very patient though. May be a good idea for the tour guide to text people the day before to remind them of the pick up time as Viator instructions can sometimes be confusing. Really recommend this tour and please tip the guide as they make less than 50% of the money you pay online.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your feedback! We're very happy to know you had a great experience and enjoyed the highlights of the tour. It means a lot to us! 😊 We hope to welcome you again soon!

Why this scores 75
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rio de Janeiro.
How much does Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro cost?
+
Prices start at $165 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rio de Janeiro usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro take?
+
Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rio de Janeiro is not rushed.
Is Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 55 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rio de Janeiro, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro?
+
Around 19 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rio de Janeiro can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rio de Janeiro and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Full Day City Tour in Rio de Janeiro start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rio de Janeiro within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rio de Janeiro?
+
On Outty we rank every Rio de Janeiro experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Pedra da Gávea hike, your best experience in Rio, Rio's Full Day: Selarón Steps, Christ & Sugarloaf – Tickets & Lunch Included, Rio: Tijuca Rainforest Hike, Wildlife, Waterfalls & Caves. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rio de Janeiro?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rio de Janeiro?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
