About this experience

I am a Basque native, in love with my country, culture and gastronomy. And after be working with travelers 7 years, in 2015 I started offering artisan, unique and authentic experiences in my own. Aiming to offer the possibility to enjoy feeling and living, the true essence of the Basque Country, out of the commercial and away from the tourist masses. And this is the best experience I offer ever about our gastronomy in San Sebastian and probably the most pure that is offered in the city. If you don’t believe me, came on to buy all we will need, in the market and old stores, for cooking and eating, one of our most classic menus in my "gastronomic society". And after completing the experience, you are not satisfied. I will return you, the amount paid for it. * The gastronomic society : Is where you can experience the region’s gastronomy from first hand. The love of food and social dining is what brings together to cook top quality ingredients with loving care.

Best Local Guide

Julen is the best local guide we have encountered anywhere in our travels. If you want an authentically local experience, you must connect with him. We have been to Basque Country three times now and it is only because of his knowledge that we have enjoyed coming back so often and experiencing the local culture

Great tour of San Sebastian with a very local guide

Julen is delightful, thoughtful. Provided a good comprehensive guide of San Sebastian (our request rather than his standard tours), the city's history and basque culture. He suggested supplementing a 3 hour walking tour of the city with a buying tour in the streets and market, followed by cooking our produce - ended up being 6 hours. Great introduction to some very good providores, v good explanation of the basque cuisine, and an excellent lunch, with some great tips on how to cook certain foods. Too much food (in a good way), cooked with a very generous host.

Response from the operator: Hey couple ! So glad to know that you had a great time with me, it was the same for me too. You are great and sweet people, so it was a pleasure to work with you. Thank you for taking time to write this nice review. Huge hug, health and much love from Basque country !

Beautiful unforgettable day with Julen visiting a local farm, picking produce, and having home cooked breakfast ... Then later going to a txoko in the mountains where we cooked a Basque meal. Both places had beautiful vistas where we took lots of photos we'll cherish forever. Julen was incredibly hospitable and fun to hang out with - it never felt like a boring tour, it felt like we were truly doing something special with the locals. I remarked to my family what a great experience that was as someone who typically avoids tours. Would definitely tour with them again.

Response from the operator: I'm so grateful you took the time to write this lovely review. I also have very fond memories of you. Hugs from the Basque Country !

An unforgettable experience in San Sebastián, Spain.

We had a great and wonderful time with the Chef,he was very knowledgeable, he created such good and tasty pintxs, and of course we had to help to do the job right. It was such a great and memorable experience, that we’ll remember the rest of our lives.

Truly one of the best parts of our trip!

If you’re heading to Basque, do yourself a favor and book a tour with Julen (@aupahi). He managed to organize a balcony for the running of the bulls, guide us through the history and traditions in a way that actually kept our kids engaged, and then led us on the most interactive and delicious food tour through San Sebastián. Every stop was thoughtful, everything we ate was incredible, and the whole experience felt super personal. He tailored it to our family, made it fun, answered every random question we threw his way—and by the end, we felt like we were just hanging out with a friend. Truly one of the best parts of our trip. We’d recommend him to anyone. Ten stars if we could. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for taking the time to write this lovely review. Hugs from the Basque Country !

From the market, to the secret kitchen: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for San Sebastian.

How much does From the market, to the secret kitchen cost?

+

Prices start at $113 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in San Sebastian usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does From the market, to the secret kitchen take?

+

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in San Sebastian is not rushed.

Is From the market, to the secret kitchen worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in San Sebastian, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule From the market, to the secret kitchen?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is From the market, to the secret kitchen suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book From the market, to the secret kitchen?

+

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in San Sebastian can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in San Sebastian and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does From the market, to the secret kitchen start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central San Sebastian within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in San Sebastian?

+

On Outty we rank every San Sebastian experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Small-Group Electric Bike Tour in San Sebastián, San Sebastian Old Town Pintxos & Wine Tour Small Group Tour, San Sebastian Premium Pintxo Food, Wine & Market Foodie Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit San Sebastian?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in San Sebastian?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
