Pompeii and Vesuvius
Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke very good English. We were able so see all of the highlights and our guide knows the site cold! I would highly recommend this tour!

WARNING to Cruisers
Our cruise ship was not able to dock at our scheduled port in Naples due to a passenger overboard emergency which required us to turn around and search for the missing person for approximately 14 hours. As you can imagine this was a stressful and heartbreaking day for us and our fellow passengers. We contacted the Veditalia team as soon as we heard about the emergency, but the Captain’s first announcement was made at 10am the day before our 8:30am reservation. This was completely out of our control and made it impossible to give more than 23h cancellation notice, just one hour short of the standard 24h notice period. Their response to our initial notice made 23 hours in advance was to keep them posted of any updates on our new arrival time as they will try to reschedule our tour if possible or provide us with other options. Throughout the entire day we were in constant communication with Veditalia with any updates from the captain as soon as we got them to help them coordinate and minimize the impact on their end as much as possible. When we finally got the update that our Naples port was officially cancelled, we contacted Veditalia, and they showed no empathy. They referred to our emotionally distressing experience as a simple "arrival issue", refused to give us a full refund, and we only were offered 20 euro back per person to cover the Pompeii entrance fee which didn’t make any sense to us. They pocketed most of our money for a tour we could not attend. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS OPERATOR. If your cruise ship has a weather cancellation or an emergency, Veditalia will pocket your money and tell you to take it up with the cruise line. Our cruise line automatically provided refunds to all passengers that booked an excursion directly with them, providing them with a worry free experience, unlike with this excursion with Viator and Veditalia. All future cruisers: please do your research on who you book your excursions with and I urge you to book with your cruise company or another provider. I wish I had known this before booking and this company’s actions have caused even more stress to our family on our vacation.

Maybe do a private tour instead
Just be aware that this experience is pretty chaotic. You will go on a big bus to Pompeii from the cruise port and the tour guides meet you in a parking lot. Getting into was easy and you will have a headset to hear the guide, but if anyone in your group has issues walking/getting around, it will slow you down. The tour seemed very short and at the end the tour guide basically just said, be back to the bus by 1230 and that was it. So if you wanted to explore a bit more on your own, you couldn't b/c you wouldn't have a ride back. And they were going to give us a snack and a water but instead of letting us eat it on the ride back they gave it to us once we got back to the port and it was cold. I'd recommend doing a private tour instead with a little more flexibility/time to explore the whole city without be affected by others and/or the timeframe.

The food items provided for this tasting are traditional local specialties intended to be enjoyed at room temperature/cold, and we regret that a complimentary courtesy was viewed negatively. As you noted, a private tour offers maximum personal flexibility and a custom pace, though at a significantly higher price point.
