About this experience
The Eco Tour is a guided nature tour, from Faro to Ilha Deserta, through Ria Formosa Natural Park’s channels. Our professional guide will share with you information about local biodiversity, traditional activities, the history of Faro, the barrier islands of the natural park, and birdwatching. More than 300 bird species have been found here, some of them very rare and others recognised internationally as endangered. The boat leads you to Ilha Deserta (a deserted island, also known as Barreta Island), a laidback destination on a stunning stretch of white sand dunes. You can enjoy all afternoon at the island: walk along the beach, take the hiking trail to the southerly most point of Portugal and taste the genuine algarvian gastronomy at Estaminé restaurant. The return is included by Ferry, and we can adjust the time (depending on availability). You can enjoy this service every day, all year round.

Wildlife boat trip
What a great trip! Jokin was our guide and was so knowledgeable about all of the birds, lending us his binoculars so that we could get a better view and pointing out amazing little fiddler crabs on the mudflats. He was so friendly and interesting that the time flew by and we got lots of lovely pictures. Thoroughly recommended for nature lovers!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're thrilled to hear you had such a great trip with Jokin. He has a real passion for the wildlife and it's wonderful to know you enjoyed learning about the birds, spotting the fiddler crabs, and making the most of the binoculars to get a closer look. We're also delighted that you found the experience both interesting and enjoyable. We hope to welcome you back for another nature adventure in the future!

Fascinating boat trip with Thomas as our guide. He spoke perfect English and was so informative and passionate about nature, rewilding and marine biology - we (2 adults and 2 teens) had an inspirational and thoroughly enjoyable trip. Highly recommended!

Incredible time
The staff with Animaris were incredible! Sadly I didn’t get to do the original tour as I was the only person signed up that day :( however they transferred me over to the island hopper tour which was very good also. The guide Tomas made sure that I still got to hear about all the incredible wildlife in the nature park and learn about fishing practices too. I enjoyed my time so much I went back the next day with a friend. P.S. the guide on our return boat sang a great rendition of “I Want to Break Free”!!
Response from the operator: Dear Hannah, Thank you very much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that, despite not being able to join the original tour, you still had a great experience on the Hop On Hop Off 3 islands tour. We’re especially pleased that Thomas made sure you could learn about the incredible wildlife of the Natural Park as well as the local fishing traditions. It means a lot to know that you enjoyed your time with us so much that you returned the following day with a friend. That is truly one of the highest compliments we can receive. Thank you again for your kind words and support. We hope to welcome you back in the future :)

Worth a trip
Biologist (Tomas) definitely knew their stuff and was knowledgeable and interesting without it being too much. Visiting all the islands is a must - they are so unique and picturesque.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! We're delighted to hear that Tomas made such a positive impression. His passion and knowledge truly make the experience special. It’s also wonderful that you enjoyed visiting the islands and we agree, each one has its own unique charm and beauty. We hope to welcome you back for another memorable adventure soon :)

Interesting and informative tour around the canals and the island
Totally recommend. I chose this trip because it promised a marine biologist for a guide. Indeed Tomas was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Saw lots of birds of different types, and learnt about their behaviour. Interesting information about the habitat and the local efforts to preserve it. Had a wonderful walk around the island, then took the ferry back to Faro. This company’s eco credentials were confirmed when they fished out a large plastic sheet floating in the ocean.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you had such an enriching experience and that Thomas made the tour both informative and enjoyable. It’s great to know you appreciated the diversity of birdlife, the insights into their behaviour, and the information about the local habitat and conservation efforts. We’re also especially glad that our commitment to protecting the environment stood out during your trip. Small actions can make a big difference, and it means a lot to know this was meaningful to you. We hope to welcome you back again soon for another memorable experience!

Why this scores 82
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Faro.
How much does From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist cost?
+
Prices start at $23 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Faro usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Faro is not rushed.
Is From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 82 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 96 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Faro, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist?
+
Around 34 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Faro can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Faro and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does From Faro: Ria Formosa Eco Tour guided by Marine Biologist start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Faro within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Faro?
+
On Outty we rank every Faro experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ria Formosa - Boat trip to the 3 Islands: Armona | Culatra Island | Lighthouse, From Faro: Benagil Cave, Marinha & Carvoeiro [Full-Day Tour], Ria Formosa Natural Park and Islands Boat Cruise from Faro. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Faro?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Faro?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
