About this experience
Fountain Square served as the southside's primary commercial corridor since the 1860's. Its laid back atmosphere, beautifully designed buildings and accessibility made it a popular neighborhood for decades. In the early 20th century, the neighborhood had more theaters than any part of Indianapolis, and became an important cultural destination. Fountain Square has recently seen a rapid transformation to a neighborhood with unique restaurants, and trendy art galleries located in renovated buildings. The Fountain Square Food Tour will give you an in-depth look at the area and its surroundings; from humble beginnings to grandeur, rapid decline to resurgence. We will enjoy food from long standing institutions, and hip new destinations.

The best place to be for your mind & stomach
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed the history and the historical sites we visited in our travels. Enjoyed the open dialogue and knowledge shared by other participants, as well. The food was good too!

Moveable Fountain
We were intrigued by the history of the area (the fountain was moved at one point) in addition to the wonderful food and beverage experiences.

Very delightful!
Krista was a wonderful tour guide, very personable and knowledgeable. The restaurants were limited as a result of the pandemic however we felt we received a full tour with lots of yummy food.

OK tour
Our tour guide, Krista, was pleasant and energetic. We sense, because of changes from Covid, the restaurant choices were not their first choices. Tamale was great; last stop pastry was horrible (since when is a Puff Pastry dark brown?) Tour was not Fountain Square; it was the Fletcher area. Historical sharing was OK.

Fountain Square tour
Food was excellent and guide was very good. We tried several food items I had never heard of or tried and liked them all. Rook had great food and New Day had awesome drinks. To make it 5 star I would make a few changes. First: when we arrived at the meeting place no one was there. When we asked people there about the tour no one knew anything about it. Our tour guide was not there early, like they asked us to be. The other item: Our first stop was at New Day for some hard ciders and mead. This is about 2 pm. They tell you not to eat lunch, as there is much food to sample. But starting out with 6 beer samples on an empty stomach and hiking quite a way in the 90 degree heat was a little rough. They need to save the tasting until after one or both of the food stops.

Why this scores 59
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Fountain Square Food Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Indianapolis.
How much does Fountain Square Food Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $73 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Indianapolis usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Fountain Square Food Tour take?
+
Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Indianapolis is not rushed.
Is Fountain Square Food Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 12 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Indianapolis, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Fountain Square Food Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Fountain Square Food Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Fountain Square Food Tour?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Indianapolis can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Indianapolis and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Fountain Square Food Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Indianapolis within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Indianapolis?
+
Indianapolis, IN packs its best experiences into walkable neighborhoods, local food, and day trips nearby. Outty ranks every bookable tour and activity in Indianapolis by rating quality, review depth, booking demand and value, so you can see the standouts before you book. On Outty we rank every Indianapolis experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Indianapolis Mobile Pub Tour and Experience, Indy Walking Tours, Wicked Wraiths of White River: Indianapolis Ghost Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Indianapolis?
+
Spring and fall bring the best weather and lighter crowds in Indianapolis, while summer has the widest choice of tours and evening activities. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Indianapolis?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
