Its construction began in 1296, designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, and was completed in 1436 with the majestic dome by Filippo Brunelleschi, a remarkable engineering innovation. Designed by Giotto di Bondone in 1334, it was completed in 1359 by Andrea Pisano and Francesco Talenti. The 84-meter-tall tower is decorated with white, green, and pink marble, harmonizing with the cathedral's façade. It features intricate geometric patterns, sculptural reliefs, and stunning statues, many of which are now preserved in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo. Visitors can climb its 414 steps to enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Florence, making it one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Great private guided tour of Duomo, Baptistery and Museum
Fabrizio our guide was excellent- spoke perfect english , his knowledge of his topics- the Duomo, Baptistery and museum were brilliant- he explained the various aspects of the tour succinctly and in sufficient depth to keep it interesting, not too little info and not too much , he had a few stories and takes to tell which kept one focused , he also did not rush the tour which ensured we could take pictures and get questions answered and after around 2 1/2 hours the tour ended. Most enjoyable and highly recommended.

Duomo dreams
Eva was great! A native of Florence, she is VERY knowledgeable, friendly, funny and down to earth. It was more of a chat rather than non-stop talking like most guides do. She was great with my 14-year old daughter as well as her 68 year-old dad, me!

Must do tour if in Florence.
Knowledgeable guide gave us a thorough tour. I would skip the bell tower climb if I went again. The wire mesh makes it difficult to get any good photos. Looks to be the same for the dome climb as well. There was some confusion over the admission lines, but our guide handled it for us.
