About this experience

The Old Quarter of Hanoi is more than a food destination—it’s a living story of over a thousand years of culinary tradition. On this guided street food tour, you’ll explore the historic 36 streets with a local expert who grew up eating at these very stalls, offering personal insights you won’t find on your own. Wander through narrow alleys and bustling sidewalks, stopping at 7–10 carefully selected eateries—from humble street vendors to family-run spots that have perfected a single dish over decades. Watch food being freshly prepared, learn why Vietnamese cuisine values texture and balance, and taste authentic dishes that locals grew up with—flavors rooted in memory, not tourism. Along the way, discover the hidden layers of Hanoi life: centuries-old tube houses, ancestor altars, and the unique sidewalk dining culture where everything operates with its own rhythm.

Very memorable night

Just like most of the food you try in the Old Quarters is very good, but when you add entertainment and information by a tour guide, that just insures it's going to be a memorable evening. 'Lucky' was our tour guide and he was great, I learned a lot from him and not just about food. At the end of the tour, just in conversation, he asked where I was staying, when I told him where it was, he said "hop on I'll take you there". And just like that I had my own personal driver and made a friend at the same time. 'Hannah', who did the booking, was so helpful in many ways to work around my schedule. I hope to return this December, I'll definitely use their services again.

Response from the operator: Such a fantastic review! We’re so glad you had such a memorable night during the Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour. Lucky"truly knows how to make the food experience even more special with his passion for the culture and his fun-loving nature. It’s wonderful to hear that you not only enjoyed the food but also learned so much during the tour. We’re thrilled that he made the evening even better by offering a personal touch as it’s always great to make new friends along the way. Thank you for highlighting Hannah’s helpfulness in organizing your booking as well. We can’t wait to welcome you back in December for another unforgettable experience!

Outstanding city tour

Hannah was wonderful and took us to many historical places; the temple, Ho Ci Min square, and the markets of the old town and the prison. She also helped us see the street with the train and a water puppet show! She was very resourceful and so sweet.

Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hanoi.

How much does Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hanoi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hanoi is not rushed.

Is Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 59 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 3 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hanoi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 3-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hanoi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hanoi and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Flavor Quest Hanoi: Old Quarter Street Walking Food Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hanoi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Hanoi?

+

On Outty we rank every Hanoi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi with Tam Coc or Trang An & Mua Cave, Ha Giang Loop Tour 4 Days 3 Nights with Ha Giang Vision Tour, Halong Bay Day Tour With Titop Island, Cave, Kayak & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Hanoi?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Hanoi?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
