This experience is done through a combination of skateboarding and walking i.e. we skate where we can skate and walk where we need to walk! Anyone who is looking to try something new OR to experience Johannesburg from the ground in a fun and informative way should definitely book this experience: you don't need any skateboarding experience to join, we start with a Skate Lesson for Beginners! Unmissable for a comprehensive visit of Johannesburg
Our guide, Ayanda, was a good communicator, very knowledgeable, and inspirational. We not only learned about street art but also about city history and society. At the end, Ayanda, who has a caring attitude, patiently showed us different recommendations for a lovely evening in Maboneng. This excellent, 3 hours and a half street art walking tour was certainly one of the highlights of our visit to Johannesburg. Highly recommended!

Excellent tour!
We had a wonderful tour with Mike! After our initial reservation was cancelled due to rain, Mike and Ayanda were so accommodating when rescheduling. This was such a fun and unique way to explore Joburg's neighborhoods and art. Plus, we learned a new skill! Highly recommend and will recommend to friends!

Overall fantastic and unique experience!!
The City Skate Tour of Jo’burg was exceptional and a highlight of my first visit to Johannesburg. As an urban planner I love cities and am interested in how cities grow and change. The tour that Ayanda led included street art, history, architecture, urban planning and development, and politics. The ground level view provided by skateboarding (and some walking since I’m a newbie skater) really enabled you to gain a unique perspective. My 14 year old son who travels with his own skateboard just loved it. If you want a unique way to experience Johannesburg I highly recommend you book the 3-hour full tour you will not regret it!
Response from the operator: Hi Garlen, We loved reading this review and are glad that your son enjoyed the experience too! The opportunity to exchange knowledge and information with guests is one of the more exciting parts of what we do - we're always looking to learn more about cities and loved hearing your thoughts and ideas on urban spaces! Bless Up, Rise Up, Stay Up!

Great experience
The City Skate Tours' team knows it all about the Johannesburg CBD and made our first time skating experience a very nice one. Ayanda and Mike are super friendly and make you feel comfortable on the skate board.
Response from the operator: Hi Justine, We appreciate these kind words and really enjoyed chatting with you about how the city can be better designed to meet the needs of its residents! Stay Up, Stay Rising!

awesome Tour!
the trip with Ayanda was the best thing we‘ve experienced in Joburg! It was super interesting to see the city from his point of view and the skating was pretty much von as well! Thank you so much!
Response from the operator: Hey Ben, It's so amazing to hear that our experience was the best thing you and Alex did in Joburg! We enjoyed exchanging stories with you two and really loved how open-minded you both were - our cherry on the top was enjoying lunch with both of you at the Ethiopian restaurant in Maboneng...the food was tasty and amazing! Can't wait to visit both of you in Germany one day!

Why this scores 78
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners!: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Johannesburg.
How much does Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners! cost?
+
Prices start at $58 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Johannesburg usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners! take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Johannesburg is not rushed.
Is Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners! worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 35 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Johannesburg, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners!?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners! suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners!?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Johannesburg can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Johannesburg and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Exploring Johannesburg through Skateboarding - incl. skate lesson for beginners! start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Johannesburg within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Johannesburg?
+
On Outty we rank every Johannesburg experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Soweto and Johannesburg Exclusive Full Day Guided Tour, Full Day Ultimate Pilanesberg National Park Safari from Johannesburg or Pretoria, Half-Day Tour of Soweto Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Johannesburg?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Johannesburg?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
