Guided, chauffer driven tour in the highlands of Sri Lanka

Our unforgetable tour was a three days tour from Ella, the jewel of Sri Lanka´s Highland, back to Ella. We started our Highland experience almost as everybody in Kandy, lucky enough to have secured train tickets. The original idea was to go to Hatton (and further by taxi to Dalhousie /Adam´s Peak) and then continue next day to Ohiya also by train. As we only got seat tickets for one train journey we decided to go all the way up to Ella to enjoy the Highlands from the train`s window and then drive back to Dalhousie. Being aware of that this will be a tough ride with arrival close to the midnight we decided to rent a car via Lakpura, organization which also runs the marvellous lodge near Ohiya (our next stay after Dalhousie). And this turned out to be the best decision we could have taken. Isuru, the guide and Thilakshitha, the driver made our trip a really unforgetable experiece! They drove us through the night sharing with us they deep knowledge of the country, culture and people. And both of them know all great, most hidden places to visit, to have a breakfast, lunch or dinner. Following our unforgetable experience at the Adam´s Peak [even if did not make it up to the summit depite starting at 0:15 (!!) we will never forget it] they drove us to the most hidden place, the Hill Safari Eco Lodge next to Horton plains with its remarkable view (you can see the lighthouse of Dondra next to Matara on a clear day/night). Shortly before we arrived at the lodge we enjoyed a great walk to the End of the World in the Horton Plains National Park. Even if afternoon may not the perfect time to enjoy the view as Clouds rise up the hills we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the view.. Next day´s target was Ella. But before we got off to Ella we had to pick up out daughter ….at the Colombo´s Airport as she could only join us after having finished her winter´s job in the Alpes...Both Isuru and Thilakshitha were incredibly kind to help us to manage this apparently unmanageable task with almost six/seven hours drive (one way only!). We woke up at 0:30 and hit the road at 1 o´clock in morning arriving at the Airport on time. Immediately after we drove back to the Hill Safari Lodge where we arrived safely in the afternoon. When we were ready to hit the road again Isuru invited us to join him and Thilakshitha at the terrasse just behind the lodge (to enjoy the most remarkable view - we thought). But there we saw an icredibly big...chocolate cake waiting for us with candle lights... It was because of my wife´s birthday she had on this day... A chocolate cake at the End of the World?? For Isuru and Thilakshitha nothing impossible and for us another unforgetable experience. All guests of the lodge joinded us is enjoying the cake! As our three days Highlands Marathon drew to a close in Ella we knew we won new friends in this beautiful Country. Days we will never forget. Thank you Isuru, thank you Thilakshitha: ISTUTI! best regards from Hamburg from all four of us :-). Ayubowan!

Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Negombo.

How much does Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath cost?

+

Prices start at $160 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Negombo usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath take?

+

Plan for about 672 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Negombo is not rushed.

Is Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Negombo, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 672-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Negombo can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Negombo and add a light layer if any part of the 672-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Explore Sri Lanka with Prasanna Sampath start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Negombo within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Negombo?

+

On Outty we rank every Negombo experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Car & Driver for 07 Days Tour In Sri Lanka, Most Popular Round Tour in Sri Lanka (10 Days), Sri Lanka classic tour 8 Days with private driver, vehicle and H/B accommodations. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Negombo?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Negombo?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
