    About this experience

You do not need to be an artist to join this tour! :) You only need to have wide eyes and an open heart. This tour is for people who love to wander, to people-watch, slow down, and notice the city. Together, we’ll make time for looking deeply instead of moving quickly, allowing space for serendipity within New York’s fast-paced, bustling rhythm. We’ll begin with a few quick sketches to loosen the hand and ground ourselves in the neighborhood, paired with short stories about the streets and spaces we’re moving through. From there, we’ll travel in gentle 30-minute intervals to a series of pre-selected spots around Brooklyn Bridge Park. Along the way, you’ll discover my favorite corners of the area alongside a small group of curious, creative people. You’ll hear stories, share observations, and experience the city. Whether you’re visiting New York for the first time or seeing it anew, this walk is designed to slow you down and help you begin your time in the city with intention.

    What you'll see and do

    1. Jane's Carousel

From the outside, you can sketch the carousel as an object—perfect circles, strong verticals, mirrored surfaces. From the inside, it becomes something else entirely: a study in rhythm, rotation, and time. Children blur into streaks of color. Adults stand still at the edges, watching. The carousel becomes the calm center, and the city moves around it. For sketching, Jane’s Carousel offers endless entry points: Repetition and pattern Circular composition Motion without chaos Reflection as distortion

    2. Brooklyn Heights Promenade

One of my favorite views of the Manhattan skyline, Statue of Liberty, and bridges — one of the most photogenic and sketchable spots in all of NYC.

A Nice Way to Get to Know the Area

I joined this experience for free as a tester through Partiful in exchange for my review. It was a lovely experience and I appreciated the host’s story of how she became interested in sketching, and the research she had done on the location. In the beginning, there was an orientation encouraging us to focus on what drew your attention, and at each stop, there were prompts to guide your sketching, which I found helpful. I appreciate that the group was kept small and intimate. At the end, we had a serendipitous chat with a longtime local couple who shared their stories on their history in the area.

    Fantastic experience!

Johnna is a fantastic host and uniquely skilled at getting a group of people to feel comfortable with one another and themselves. She knew the history of the block and the area, had extra supplies at hand, and created a great space for creative activity. Will definitely take part again!

    Great day sketching in Brooklyn!

Johnna’s the best! Kind, knowledgeable, fun, and attentive. We got to learn about the history of the neighborhood directly from locals who have lived there since the 70s and we were encouraged to really slow down and notice all the small details all around us as we selected subjects to sketch! Walked away with new friends and a newfound appreciation for NYC and finding calm in the chaos - you won’t regret it!

A beautiful Artistic Experience in Brooklyn!

I've been wanting more calming artistic and creative experiences while being in NYC, and this tour definitely scratches that itch. I love exploring Brooklyn, but participating in something like this makes you really stop, slow down, and truly absorb the city in a beautiful way. Johnna is wonderful, and I loved hearing tales and stories about the city while we drew. I'm so glad I got to go on this, and make some new friends! And of course the best souvenir from the day is the art I made, and brought back home. If you're new to the city, or even have been here for a while and want to get out and try something new, an Ubran sketch walk is a lovely way to spend a day!

Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Brooklyn.

How much does Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching cost?

    +

Prices start at $50 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Brooklyn usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Brooklyn is not rushed.

Is Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Brooklyn, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Brooklyn can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Brooklyn and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Explore Brooklyn Heights Through Urban Sketching start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Brooklyn within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Brooklyn?

    +

On Outty we rank every Brooklyn experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Brooklyn Bridge & DUMBO Food Tour: Local Eats & Iconic Views, The Escape Game Brooklyn: Epic 60-Minute Adventures in City Point, Bushwick Street Art Tour and Williamsburg Lifestyle Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Brooklyn?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Brooklyn?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
