    About this experience

I (Captain Matt) along with my crew member take our guests out for an incredible experience on the waters in and around Sitka Sound viewing the breathtaking scenery and enjoying diverse wildlife encounters! You may see many if not all of the following wildlife, Humpback whales, Sea Lions, Sea Otters, Harbor Seals, Ravens, Bald eagles, shearwaters, cormorants, 2 types of puffins, and many other sea birds too numerous to mention. Bears are regularly viewed in the late summer early fall, and occasionally viewed in the spring. As I have had a long career commercial fishing in Southeast Alaska, I give unique insight into the local fishing industry. Both my crew and I will also enlighten you on local history and life in Sitka. To ensure your experience is genuine, my crew is always either one of my family, or a local hire that truly knows Sitka. We live it year round!!

    What an experience!

Had the best time on the incredible marine wildlife tour with Sea Piper Tours. We saw much more than what we anticipated! First we saw a mother bear with her cub at the shoreline looking for salmon, this was a bonus as I didn't expect to see any beats on this trip, we saw plenty of humpback whales, bald eagles, seals, a seal lion, sea otters (which were funny floating in the sea on their backs) and lots of salmon. We were well looked after by Captain Matt and (sorry can't remember the young lady's name 😬) who knew exactly where to look for all the wildlife, we seemed to be the first boat getting to see them. Onboard the boat we were provided with binoculars which were very useful. We were also provided with unlimited hot and cold drinks and snacks which we were so grateful for. I would definitely do this tour again and would highly recommend it!

Response from the operator: Thanks for joining us! It was our pleasure! Captain Matt

Best whale / wildlife watching tour

Capt Matt was very friendly and made sure we spent a lot of time anytime we spotted wildlife. I was expecting whales (possibly since the previous 2 whale watching tours I’ve done I saw no whales). What we got was a very small group on a small boat. Staff were amazing. True locals and not out-of-state Summer help from kids looking for a Summer job in Alaska. Yes, we did see several whales. We also saw brown bear with 3 subs, sea lions, sea otters, salmon hatchery and a harbor seal. Free hot and cold drinks and snacks included. I would do this exact tour this next time I’m in Sitka.

Response from the operator: Thanks for your wonderful words about our tour! We enjoyed having you onboard! Hope to have you join us again! Captain Matt

Everything we wanted to see and more!

This is one of the best excursions that we have ever had. Matt and Sophia were so knowledgeable and personable, and they really showed us a lot of Alaskan wildlife along with great narrative about the fishing industry and the wildlife itself. We saw everything that was promised and more. We even got an opportunity to watch fisherman pull in their nets, an unexpected, but really interesting plus. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming to Sitka Alaska they even provided snacks and warm drinks for us. The boat was spacious and we had a heated cabin to warm up if we needed it.

Response from the operator: Thanks for sharing your experience with us! We enjoyed having you on our tour! Matt

Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sitka.

How much does Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $210 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sitka usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sitka is not rushed.

Is Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 100 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable family friendly in Sitka, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour?

    +

No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.

Is Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour?

    +

Around 35 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sitka can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sitka and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Experience Incredible Marine Wildlife Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sitka within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Sitka?

    +

Sitka runs sea otter and whale quest boats, bear and raptor rescue centre visits, Tongass rainforest hikes, kayak paddles through the islands and Russian colonial history walks. On Outty we rank every Sitka experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include PREMIUM Sitka Scenic Tour, Best of Sitka Land Tour / Bears, Raptors, Totems, Guided Hike | TONGASS NATIONAL FOREST. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Sitka?

    +

May to September. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Sitka?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
