What you get

    About this experience

"Takoyaki" is a traditional food that originated in Osaka. It is cooked in a special takoyaki machine and eaten with a toothpick. Many tourists who visit Osaka buy takoyaki at stores, but locals often make them at home. They gather with family and friends and spend a fun time cooking and eating takoyaki together. The filling doesn't have to be octopus! You can add your favorite fillings, such as cheese or crab sticks. During this experience, you can also enjoy Ramune, a traditional Japanese carbonated drink, with your takoyaki. We hope you will experience the joy of making and eating "takoyaki," the pride of Osaka, together in the region where it originated.

    とてもすばらしいです!

This was the best activity we did during our 3-week stay in Japan! The price is actually super reasonable and the cooking course itself... easily 5+/5 stars! Cooking takoyaki is so much fun and after this course, I am comfortable to try it at home with all the tips and skills I received from here, and it tasted so, so good! And Zen and Lisa were absolutely wonderful hosts. Would definitely, without zero reservatios, recommend this!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for today! I was really happy to see how enthusiastically you listened to the explanation on how to make takoyaki. You were also incredibly skilled at cooking them—it was amazing! I hope you try making them at home, too. They’re delicious with all sorts of fillings besides octopus. I’m so glad this could be a memorable part of your trip! Thank you!

    Great fun cooking takoyaki!

We had an amazing time with Zen and Lisa! We cooked two rounds of takoyaki - first practice round with good advice from our teachers and then the true test. I think we passed! This was by far the best arranged activity we had on our trip. I could do this again tomorrow!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for today! We had a wonderful time, too. I’m so happy that this became a memorable part of your trip. Thanks for sharing so much about your travels in Japan as well! Takoyaki tastes especially delicious when you make it yourself, doesn't it? You both did a fantastic job making it. Thank you!

    Delicious Takoyaki with great teachers!

Zen and Lisa are very practiced, and are great and patient teachers. They're also great for a chat while you're cooking. They take you through the process well, sharing tips and tricks to hone your technique. The memories and knowlege you take from this class will allow you to make delicious takoyaki whenever you like and that alone would be worth the price of admission. But with Zen's deep knowlege and affection for Osaka, cooking, and delicious takoyaki, it becomes an absolute must!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for all your kind words!I love Osaka, so I’m really happy that you could feel that and that you both enjoyed making takoyaki ! We had such a great time talking with you! Thank you for sharing stories about your country and your travels — it was really interesting and fun ! Were you able to see Mt. Fuji clearly? Thank you again for joining us!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much! We’re so happy to hear it was a highlight of your trip! We also really enjoyed talking about food and anime with you ! You were both amazing at making takoyaki — it was hard to believe it was your first time! Thank you again for joining us!

    Authentic Takoyaki

Masa’s venue is a lovely restaurant with all the proper tools to make for a wonderful experience. The takoyaki we made is better than anything i’ve had in the US!

Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Osaka.

How much does Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka cost?

    +

Prices start at $43 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Osaka usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Osaka is not rushed.

Is Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Osaka, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka?

    +

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Osaka can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Osaka and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Experience Cooking Takoyaki in its Birthplace, Osaka start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Osaka within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Osaka?

    +

On Outty we rank every Osaka experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Hungry Osaka Street Food Tour:15 Tastings & 3 Drinks with a Local, Ultimate Osaka Walking Tour: Castle, Dotonbori, Gems & Lunch, Osaka Castle Walking Tour and Castle Tower Admission. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Osaka?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Osaka?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
