About this experience
This not JUST a walking tour nor JUST a cheese and wine tasting. Your guide Michael, the "Cheese Lover", has 20 years experience running his own cheese shop in Switzerland and London, he now spends most of his time talking about cheese, including taking guests on these unique walks. On his tours you will visit 1 or 2 cheese shops away from the usual tourist traps and learn how to spot the best cheeses and how to make a perfect cheese board. He'll buy cheeses for the tasting and can also help you to choose cheeses to take home. Michael will then serve the cheeses and explain why they all look, smell and taste different. You'll also learn how the cheeses are made and the history of them. He also has many interesting anecdotes to share about Amsterdam and his world of cheese! This tour is on Wed, Thu and Fri, other tours (inc with beer and walks with luxury canal cruises) are on other days as well as windmill cheese lunches. Contact Michael for details. Walking time is approx 50 mins

Best food/tasting experience and highlight of our trip
Michael is part historian, part instructor, part tour guide, and ALL cheese. We've taken "food" tours in at least five countries and done numerous "tastings" and this was by far the best experience and value ever. Michael is a fount of knowledge but is also able to provide simple tips and guidelines so you leave understanding cheese, where to buy it, how to choose/store/enjoy it, how to pair it, etc. He meets people where they are, giving them the opportunity to be adventurous but not pushing. The stories from his experiences sharing cheese professionally in three countries literally gave us goosebumps or misty eyes more than once. The meeting location was easy to find. We toured on a day the wine shop was closed so we had the beer pairings. I've never been a beer drinker and yet I really enjoyed (and finished) several of the selections. The Wild Man brown pub (and Simon the owner) were a bonus completing the experience. The three hours or so with Michael was the highlight of our time in Amsterdam. He also does online programs as well. And I look forward to his books coming out!

If you like cheese, this tour is a must
We had a fantastic experience with Michael! Our few hours with him broadened our knowledge about cheese on the "Cheese Lover Original - Private Cheese Walk & Tavern or Brewery" tour. His passion and enthusiasm for cheese were contagious. On a beautiful Saturday morning we met up and were provided a different tour and view of Amsterdam. Michael's enthusiasm was clear as he started to tell us stories. This continued as we weaved our way through the canals to places tourists don't go. As we gathered what we needed to make a great cheeseboard, we were able to see several local markets which were filled with locals - a real experience most tourists never find. Aside from knowledge, we enjoyed tasting the cheeses, chatting with Michael, and learning about wines to pair in the hidden tasting room at a wine shop. I highly encourage you to enjoy this experience!

Amsterdam for Cheese Lovers
We met Michael for a Cheese Discovery Walking tour on a Saturday morning, which meant we were able to experience the cheese market and chat with the suppliers. The aim was to build the perfect cheese board and Michael's passion and expertise meant we got to taste some awesome cheeses. These were paired with some Dutch wines at a local speakeasy style bar. Michael tells some great stories and has led an incredible life, which he is planning to pull together into a book. This was easily the highlight of our time in Amsterdam.

Book this tour!
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed Michael’s “Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery” tour on Friday. Michael is incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. He caters the tour to the interests, tastes, and blue cheese-tolerance level of the group to provide a truly memorable experience. The tour combined many of our favorite activities into one: strolling through charming neighborhoods, learning new things, and, of course, eating excellent cheese. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys these things, as well. He has additional tours available on his website. I look forward to reading his book, as his stories were fascinating.

Cheese...you knew! There is just so much to learn!
This tour was recommended to me by a friend and I was at first a bit skeptical. Oh my goodness, this was a fantastic tour. I can not recommend it highly enough. You will learn so much about cheese and how what you drink with it brings out the various flavors. Additionally you start to learn you way around Amsterdam. You also hear some cool stories about individuals that he has interacted with to this point in his career. If you love (or even just like) cheese do yourself a favor and spend 3 hours doing this awesome tour.

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Amsterdam.
How much does Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery cost?
+
Prices start at $105 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Amsterdam usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Amsterdam is not rushed.
Is Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 39 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Amsterdam, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery?
+
Around 14 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Amsterdam can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Amsterdam and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Exclusive Cheese Walk & Dutch Wine Discovery start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Amsterdam within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Amsterdam?
+
On Outty we rank every Amsterdam experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Amsterdam Canal Cruise with Local Guide and Small Group, Guided Bike Tour of Amsterdam's Highlights & Hidden Gems, Amsterdam: Luxury Canal Cruise including Cocktails & Snacks. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Amsterdam?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
