Highlight of our trip
We had such a wonderful experience with Lorena on our first day in Mexico City! Taking her cooking class was the perfect way to start our trip. Lorena was incredibly warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable, and she did such a great job making the experience both fun and educational. We started with a tour of Mercado Medellín, where we sampled a variety of fresh ingredients, fruits, tortillas, and even some insects! Lorena shared so much interesting history and insight into Mexican ingredients and their connection to the culture, which made the experience feel much more meaningful than just a cooking class. From the market, we went on to prepare a delicious four-course meal together. Lorena patiently guided us through every step of the preparation and cooking while explaining the history and traditions behind the dishes. We loved being able to make the meal ourselves and then sit down and enjoy everything we had prepared, along with our choice of beer, wine, agua Fresca or mezcal. It was an unforgettable experience and such a special introduction to Mexico City. We’re so glad we did this on our first day and would absolutely recommend Lorena’s class to anyone visiting CDMX!

The Perfect Introduction to Mexican Cuisine
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico City! Our chef provided a truly authentic experience, teaching us not only how to prepare delicious Mexican dishes but also about the country's rich culinary traditions and culture. The visit to the local market was fantastic, and even the insect tasting was a fun and memorable experience! I especially loved learning about the different fresh and dried chilies and how they are used in Mexican cooking. The class was very hands-on, and I've already recreated many of the dishes at home. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for an authentic and unforgettable Mexican cooking experience.

Best way to spend half a day in Mexico City!!
Can not rave more about this class. Netzi was a wonderful chef/host!!! From beginning to end it was SO fun, with the market tour and tastings to the cooking it could not have been better. A definite must do in CDMX!

Best cooking class we've ever taken!!!
After traveling the world and taking cooking classes in each of the countries we visit, I can easily say that this was the best, most organized cooking class we've ever taken!

Perfect Foodie Experience in CDMX
What a terrific way to spend a morning in CDMX! Our guide and instructor Lorena was fantastic. We were greeted with coffee, tea, and a huitlacoche quesadilla! We then proceeded to visit a tortillería and a local market. This part of the experience included many unexpected food samples— I won’t name them because the surprise is part of the fun! We then returned to the studio to prepare a delicious multi-course meal, full of cultural learning, sampling, chopping, baking, and cooking. Everyone was kept busy and there was never a dull moment. When it came time to eat, we had mezcal shots, beer, and wine to accompany our meal! The food we made was elevated and authentic, and included things I had never tried even though I’ve been to Mexico many times. We also enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with fellow travelers. I highly recommend this experience.

Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Mexico City.
How much does Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $2099 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Mexico City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour take?
+
Plan for about 4.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Mexico City is not rushed.
Is Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 304 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Mexico City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4.5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour?
+
Around 106 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Mexico City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Mexico City and add a light layer if any part of the 4.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Essence of Mexico: Authentic Mexican Cooking Class & Market Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Mexico City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Mexico City?
+
On Outty we rank every Mexico City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Frida Kahlo VIP [Museum Tickets Included] Walk, Markets & Churros, Local Foodie Adventure CDMX: Tacos & more with Sherpa Food Tours, Balloon Flight+Gruta brekfast+Teotihuacan Tour from Mexico City. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Mexico City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Mexico City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
