Awesome Family Adventure!

We had an absolutely fabulous family day at Pacaya Volcano with our 11, 13 and 15 year olds! Our guide, Guy, was fantastic from start to finish. He explained the schedule beforehand, picked us up right on time at our Airbnb, and made the ride to the volcano fun and informative. He was incredibly entertaining, knowledgeable, and happy to answer all of our questions. Along the way, Guy stopped in a small village to buy traditional corn tortillas made by local families, giving us the chance to taste some authentic local food. The horseback ride to the top of Pacaya was a highlight for the kids, and the hike offered breathtaking views and beautiful shady paths. Our local guide was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to explain the history of the area and the local plants. Seeing the lava fields up close was incredible! We also enjoyed delicious pizza and toasted marshmallows cooked right on the volcano, and hearing the lava rocks crunch beneath our feet was such a unique experience. There’s even a little gift shop at the top with small, affordable souvenirs. This excursion was absolutely worth the money, and our kids are still talking about what a fabulous day it was. Highly recommend this experience for families with kids and teens!

An unforgettable adventure hiking Pacaya Volcano! 🌋

From the moment we were picked up, everything was smooth, organized, and stress-free. Our guide was fantastic, incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the area. He really helped make the whole experience even more enjoyable. The views from the volcano were absolutely incredible. Being able to look out across Guatemala and see Fuego and Acatenango in the distance was something truly special. Standing up there, taking in the scenery, and realizing where we were made the climb completely worth it. And then there was the pizza at the top! I honestly didn’t know what to expect, but having freshly made pizza while taking in those views was such a cool and memorable experience. Definitely worth the climb! Hiking Pacaya was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Guatemala. It was an amazing adventure, well worth the money, and something will be talking about for a long time. 5 stars all the way! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone visiting Antigua Guatemala.

Fantastic adventure - horses, volcano and pizza!

Amazing outing! We went as a family of four - two adults and two teens. The guides were super friendly and knowledgeable. (Guy who took care of us from timely pick up until final drop off and also Salvador and his family who guided us on the trail and cared for the horses). Our driver, Jorge, was very safe. The horses were well trained and calm enough even for young or novice riders. The top of the trail had amazing views (we could see whiffs of sulfur smoke coming out of Pacaya, out to the valley, and Volcán de Agua). We enjoyed sitting in the cooled lava fields eating volcano pizza /marshmallows. We even had a chance to scramble around the rocks while they cooked it. Very surreal. We 100% recommend this trip to others. It had everything we expected/hoped for plus nice added touches.

The best day

If you're visiting Guatemala, this experience is an absolute must! Riding horseback up Pacaya Volcano, followed by what may have been the best pizza we've ever had, was hands down our favorite adventure of the entire trip. A huge thank you to our incredible driver and coordinator, Guy, who made the day so much more than just a tour. He was hilarious, incredibly knowledgeable, and made everything feel personal and fun—even surprising us with Western wear and cowboy hats that had us laughing and taking the best photos all day long. Our horseback guides were fantastic as well. They were kind, attentive, and clearly took wonderful care of their horses. The horses were calm, well-trained, and beautifully cared for, making the ride enjoyable and comfortable all the way up the volcano. This was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. If you're looking for an adventure with amazing people, breathtaking views, and incredible food, don't miss this tour!

Great experience

Ours was a private tour and was exceptional. Wear appropriate clothes and shoes. We were experienced riders but since we all had our own wangler in addition to the guide I think that no experience was necessary. We felt safe. The scenery was beautiful, the experience of having pizza at the top was fun, the driver that took us back and forth was a good driver, punctual, fun and informative, The guide that took us up the volcano made us feel very safe at all times. I recommend this excursion highly.

Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Antigua.

How much does Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows cost?

+

Prices start at $299 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Antigua usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows take?

+

Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Antigua is not rushed.

Is Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 23 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Antigua, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 8. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 6-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows?

+

Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Antigua can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Antigua and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Epic Pacaya Volcano Horseback Tour w/ Pizza & Marshmallows start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Antigua within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Antigua?

+

On Outty we rank every Antigua experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Antigua ATV Sunset Tour, Authentic Guatemalan Cooking Class in Antigua, Antigua ATV Coffee Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Antigua?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Antigua?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
