Elephants & Lions
I thought all of the animals could roam freely, but basically they're all trained to do something, or behind fences. Tanzania's motto is "there are no fences" so the animals can go anywhere. Not so at this "sanctuary".
Response from the operator: Dear Ellen, Thank you so much for your response and we really appreciate your concern. South Africa Elephant Sanctuary are elephants that have been rescued from the Natural park, orphans or just in a state where they can loose their life. They are collected and given another chance for them to live again. You will recall the introduction by the rangers about how or where they do get these elephants. South Africa Law might be different from Tanzania. An injured elephant can not survive in the wild, an orphan elephant can't survive in the wild. I hope this explanation will assist you to understand. Good Luck!

Excellent Visit
Injured, deserted elephants are taken care in an excellent way. You learn a lot about the elephants, even their anatomy. Then you can touch, ride and even get a kiss. I’ve never been so close to an elephant and it is a great experience. All parents should go with their kids (while unfortunately the entrance fee is a bit too high)

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Johannesburg can sell out a month out. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Johannesburg?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Johannesburg?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
