Its okay
The experience wasn't as relaxing as i thought. It felt very commercial if that makes sense. The mud bath was nice but they charge like 20 mil pesos for the extra services like "massage" " watching our sandals" etc and it really wasnt "optional" as they claim it to be. The tour guide was nice, driver drove well. However, he lacked on interacting with us and gave little to no information on the history of the volcano. He only gave us some info because we asked him about it. Overall, it was okay.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We truly appreciate your honesty, as it helps us continue improving our experience. We’re glad to know you enjoyed the mud bath and felt comfortable with both our guide and driver. However, we are very sorry to hear that certain aspects did not meet your expectations. We understand your concern regarding the additional services offered at the volcano. These services are provided by independent locals and, although they are meant to be optional, we apologize if you felt pressured at any point — that is certainly not the experience we want for our guests. We will reinforce this with our team to ensure clearer communication and a more comfortable environment for all visitors. Regarding the historical information, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will address this with our guide so future guests receive the complete, enriching explanation they deserve without needing to ask. We appreciate your comments and will use them to continue improving. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and offer you a much better experience. Warm regards, Costeña Travel

Let's get muddy!
Went with a big group and they were able to accommodate, though we did get split into two busses given the large group. Some additional costs (light massage in the mud, ladies helping you wash off the mud, any drinks) but very affordable. It was fun for kids and grown-ups.
Response from the operator: Hi Gisselina_Y! 😊 Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We're glad to hear that your big group was well accommodated—even if it meant splitting into two buses—and that both kids and adults had a great time! 🙌 We also appreciate you pointing out the additional costs (like the light massage, mud rinse assistance, and drinks), as it's super helpful for future travelers. We always aim to provide a fun, affordable, and well-organized experience, and we're happy to know that came through. Hope to see you again soon for more unforgettable adventures! 🌋🚌✨ — Costeña Travel Team 💙

A nice touch to your trip!
Nice way to spend a day in Cartagena. Our guide was friendly and spoke good English and prepared us well for the experience. The stop at the beach club for swimming and lunch, which was really good, is the added bonus. You definitely get your monies worth!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 We're thrilled to hear you had a great day exploring Cartagena with us. It's wonderful to know our guide made you feel comfortable and well-prepared, and that you enjoyed the beach club experience and lunch! Great Tour!
The tour was exactly as described. We were picked up at the clock tower in Walled City and proceeded to the mud tour. After the mud tour we proceeded to a beach club where the included lunch was provided. There was a pool and chairs to relax. There was also a bar. The beach was just a few steps away. The lunch was very tasty! The guides were very helpful. We really enjoyed this tour and would do it again! Please consider these things before you go. - Try to get off the bus first so that you can make it to the mud pit first because the line gets long - Bring a towel - VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure to have small denominations of Columbian pesos (4 -5,000/per person—we were told about $20K Colombian pesos total) to tip. At the volcano, locals are there to help you along the way. Someone will take your towel and shoes (5K CP)to wait for you after the volcano and lake, someone will use your phone to take pictures (5K CP), someone will give you a massage in the volcano (5K CP), someone will rinse you off in the lake (5K CP). We were told the USD conversion was $9-10 (because the location was remote) for all services. The services were very much worth the money and you have to pay or they will come on the bus to collect!
Response from the operator: We are glad that your experience has been magnificent, that you have delighted in the service offered, meeting your expectations. The Costeña Travel team eagerly awaits your return. Thank you for choosing us.

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cartagena.
How much does El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel cost?
+
Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cartagena usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cartagena is not rushed.
Is El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 13 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cartagena, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel?
+
Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cartagena can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cartagena and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does El Totumo mud volcano day tour and eco-friendly hotel start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cartagena within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cartagena?
+
On Outty we rank every Cartagena experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Historic Center & Getsemaní Shared Tour in Cartagena, Cartagena VIP Boat Tour: Rosario Islands & Snorkel, Cartagena Antigua & Barrio Getsemani group with audio system. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cartagena?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cartagena?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
