    What you'll see and do

    1. Stirling Castle

Firstly, perched on Castle Hill, Stirling Castle is sure to catch your eye - if your guide doesn’t point it out first. Possibly one of Scotland’s most important castles, it’s here where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned Queen and spent most of her early childhood.

      Pass by without stopping

    2. Callander

Known as The Gateway to the Highlands, Callander is the perfect place to start your West Highlands tour. Bursting with coffee shops, gifts shops - and of course a fantastic whisky shop - the first stop on this tour will get you ready for everything that’s to come. You can also take a stroll along the River Teith which flows along the edge of the town, with spectacular views of Ben Ledi and the Craggs behind the town.

      60 minutes here

    3. Scotland is full of breathtaking scenic drives, and Glenogle is no different. As you sit back, you’ll be spoilt for picture opportunities. With endless rolling hills, you can imagine yourself transported back to the time of the Jacobites and Scottish rebellions. The glen is actually known as the homeland for Rob Roy MacGregor - a famous Scottish outlaw turned folk hero between the 1600s and 1700s.

      Pass by without stopping

    4. Kilchurn Castle

One of Scotland’s most photographed castles, you’ll no doubt have seen it before. Kilchurn Castle is a spectacular medieval ruin that sits on an ‘island’ on Loch Awe. Originally, this wasn’t an island, but actually part of the mainland before the water level dropped. Its most famous claim to fame is during the Jacobite Rebellion when it was used as a stronghold for the English.

60 minutes here · Admission not included

    5. Loch Awe

Leaving the castle behind, we will drive along the banks of Loch Awe on the way to our next destination. A beautifully scenic drive, you’ll not be short of picture opportunities.

      Pass by without stopping

    6. Inveraray

Wander through the picturesque streets of Inverary, visit the Old Sweet Shop or stop for a coffee. Overlooking the banks of Loch Fyne, the county town was originally created and planned by the Duke of Argyll in 1745. On the edge of the town, you’ll also find Inverary Castle which is set within extensive grounds with beautiful views over towards the Loch.

      60 minutes here

    7. Rest and be Thankful

Simply spectacular. There are no words that can describe the beauty of the Rest and Be Thankful, and it’s one of the most dramatic valleys you’ll ever see. Winding through the valley, you’ll also see the old road which was used during the Jacobite times as a military route.

      Pass by without stopping

    8. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park

Picture-perfect, the village of Luss is somewhere everyone has to see when visiting Scotland. With its quaint little houses and Loch-side location, it’s one of the prettiest villages imaginable. Walk along the pier and get your picture taken with views of Ben Lomond in the backdrop, before heading back to Edinburgh at the end of your day.

    Hopscotch Travel The Best

Our guide Fraser was outstanding. Very knowledgeable and he seemed to pick up on our wants to see. He stopped everytime I needed the restroom. Had cold water for us. We had Michael for one day. He told me a story about Mary the Scot that brought her to life for me. Also Fraser knew I had mobility issues and tried to park as close as he could for an attraction. Hamish is why I booked with Hopscotch. He called me when I filled out a form. After I talked to him on the phone I knew he would take care of us. He was so understanding of a booking problem I had with booking com. I give everyone the highest recommendation. If I come back to Scotland I would use Hopscotch again. I have recommended it to everyone and I will put it on FB.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review and delighted to read you all had a lovely time and thank you also for the recommendations.

Fantastic Private Day tour with Fraser and Hopscotch Travel!

What a fantastic day with Hopscotch Travel! Our guide and driver was Fraser and he is excellent. We did the Western Highlands from Glasgow and saw so many beautiful places. They know Scotland in and out and all the special stories and history along the way. Bonus, we even saw Highland cows in the winter, which can be rare! Now I must return to Scotland to do the parts that we did not have time for, Culloden, Balmoral, Loch Ness, etc. What a gorgeous country! thank you

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review, we really appreciate it and look forward to welcoming you back to Scotland soon!

My pictures do not this tour justice

This was the best day I have had on vacation in decades. The second best was the day tour I took of Edinburgh with Fraser and Hopscotch, two days before. I could not have asked for a more personable and knowledgeable guide then Fraser. Together we tailored the day to just for me. We visited: - Doune Castle (Castle Leoch in Outlander and Swamp Castle, Castle Anthrax and Camelot in Monty Python and the Holy Grail) - Callander (Mhor Bread) - Loch Lubnaig - Loch Tulla viewpoint - Rannoch Moor viewpoint - Buachaille Etive Mor (Triangular shaped mountain that features in Skyfall and Outlander S6 Ep 1) - Glencoe 3 Sisters - Glencoe Loch Achtriochtan - Glencoe NTS Visitor Centre - Luss, Loch Lomond - Stirling Castle photo - Forth Bridges Viewpoint The only thing I regret is that I did not plan more days with Fraser and Hopscotch. Planning on correcting that later this year.

Response from the operator: We look forward to welcoming you back soon! Thanks again for your review - we work hard in the background to deliver the best experiences for our guests and I’m delighted to read you enjoyed your (2nd) tour with us!

    Magnificent Tour!

My husband and I booked the private West Highland Day tour. IT WAS MAGNIFICENT. Michael, our guide, was informative and fun! He modified the tour so we could view our special interests. ( the Kelpies!). At no time did we feel rushed when we visited breathtaking sights in the West Highlands. The day was stress free because we were picked up and dropped off at our accommodations. The vehicle was comfortable and roomy. We would definitely utilize Hopscotch Travel in the future!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review - we are delighted to read you had a great time with Michael and hope to see you again soon.

Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.

How much does Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV cost?

    +

Prices start at $579 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.

Is Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV?

    +

Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Edinburgh: West Highlands Privately Guided Day Tour in Luxury MPV start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?

    +

On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience in Edinburgh, The Mountebank Comedy Walk of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Old Town: Historical Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Edinburgh?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
