The initial plan for Edinburgh’s New Town was approved by the City Council in 1767, and is the largest complete example of town planning from the Georgian period anywhere in the world. Its mixture of classical architecture, grand squares and terraces, gardens and secluded lanes, means that a walk through its streets is a journey back in time to an age of elegance. Highlights of the New Town Charlotte Square, designed by the architect Robert Adam in 1791, is regarded as an architectural masterpiece. Here you can visit the Georgian House and gain some insights into daily life from 200 years ago. In nearby George Street the Assembly Rooms, which date from 1787, is still used for concerts, dancing and entertainment. At the opposite end of George Street is St Andrew Square, where the gardens are now open to the public.

Private Walking Tour Royal Mile Edinburgh
From the moment Martin met us in the hotel lobby until our return in the evening we had a fantastic time walking the Royal Mile, touring Edinburgh Castle and enjoying excellent authentic Scottish cuisine. Martin was an absolute fountain of knowledge who answered all of our questions and educated us on the storied history as we walked along and through the old town of Edinburgh. There were a number of locations on the walk where we would not have seen or understood the significance without Martin’s local and historical knowledge. Martin ensured he set a pace that allowed us to see all but not feel we were in a marathon. We were surprised at the end of the walk to discover we had covered 10 kilometres in our day because it felt like we had only gone a few. The lunch location Martin chose was comfortable, accommodating and well located. His guidance through the choices of authentic Scottish cuisine allowed us a taste of Scotland and we came away with new favourites to try when we return to Canada. I would highly recommend if you are going to Edinburgh that you contact Martin McMenigall for well rounded experience on this fascinating city.

This private day tour is...
This private day tour is a must. Our tour guide, Brian, was the best. A very helpful and informative person. He had a great personality and tailored the tour to fit our tastes. It was a delightful day. We saw so many great sites in Edinburgh. But also had time to eat pur lunch in a nice green park.
Response from the operator: Thank You for such a nice review. So pleased Brian looked after you all. We appreciate your business and that you allowed Aura Journeys to be part of your Scotland adventure.

Cruise ship cancelled...
Cruise ship cancelled port disembark due to safety concerns but Viator won't cancel my booking or issue any refund. Zero refund and NO future booking compensation were offered. My friends and I are OUT $1285 dollars. Very disappointing and we would not use this company again!! Will definitely share our experience with our friends and followers in our social media.
Response from the operator: Good Day Julia, as our original reply we are sorry that your ships captain decided not to dock and tender to Edinburgh. These situations are must be very frustrating especially when on vacation. Your Driver/Guide was dispatched and on time for your collection, the weather was fine in Edinburgh and we were looking forward to showing you our capital city. As a traveller you are responsible for ensuring you have appropriate travel insurance in place, those enjoying a cruise vacation should also make sure they have the correct level of cover as normal travel insurance does not cover cruise vacations. Looks like on this occasion you have not got the correct cover in place, cruise vacation insurance will cover you for missed ports and excursions due to not docking. Our team were ready and waiting to complete the tour, with the notice of less than an hour we would not be able to take another booking. Our driver would need to be paid along with other incurred costs. We can sympathise with the missed port but to leave a poor review having not used our service is pretty low, especially as the issue was nothing to do with our performance. If you had taken the correct level of travel insurance you would not have an issue. The threat of sharing your experience is something we feel you should do, it will highlight that travelling without checking your insurance can be costly! We will not be bullied by the threats, Braveheart is a great example of that. We have a lovely list of reviews from travellers that have very much enjoyed the tour, we will let our potential clients decide from all of our reviews if exploring Edinburgh and Scotland is worth it with Aura Journeys. Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.
How much does Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh cost?
+
Prices start at $724 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh take?
+
Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.
Is Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 23 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?
+
On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Chocolatarium Chocolate Tour Experience in Edinburgh, The Mountebank Comedy Walk of Edinburgh, Edinburgh Old Town: Historical Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Edinburgh?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
What is included in Edinburgh Private Day Tour from Edinburgh?
+
Included: Wi-Fi Access; Services & Stories of a Scottish Driver; and Door to Door Service from Edinburgh Cruise Terminals. Not included: Gratuities (Passenger Discretion); The Royal Yacht Britannia; and Edinburgh Castle. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
