Food tour
We tried some amazing and different foods you wouldn’t get anywhere else. Eating at local spots no tourists has seen. The tour guide (Ari) is very knowledgeable about all aspects of Malaysia (food, history, politics, etc) and if there is anything specific that you want to try he will go out of his way to get it for you.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your fantastic 5-star review - much appreciated ! We are delighted to hear that you had amazing & different food at the unique non-touristy local favourite hideouts and your guide Ari shared on the food, history & politics too 😍. Yes we are not just about the food but very passionate to share the why, what, where & how too 💕. We look forward to re-hosting you whenever you re-visit with more hidden gems. Till then happy holidays & safe travels too 👍

Extraordinary eating experience
It was an extremely enjoyable evening. The culinary experience will long be remembered. This was our first excursion based on local food. Our guide knew all about the cooking process for the food he suggested for us. It was educational and enjoyable. We highly recommend the trip.
Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your awesome review. Glad that you had an extremely enjoyable evening on your first adventure with local food - not just enjoying the food but knowing its cooking process too. We hope you revisit soon. Thank you again for highly recommending this !

Epic food tour - must try
We did this as a family of five. My mother, two teens (13 and 15) and my husband and I. So we cover a few age groups with this review. It was fantastic! Our first stop had flooded earlier that day, and our wonderful tour guide and driver jumped straight into a plan b and checked with us if we were happy with the new plan. The different foods were great, and hearing the history behind the places we ate and the areas we went was informative, interesting and at times very funny. There was food that suited everyone (not easy to achieve with the youngest) and while us adults were already excited for the tour, the teens said it was so much more fun then they were expecting. Our tour guide, Karlson, was extremely funny and it was lovely that both our guide and driver ate with us and shared stories of the area and their childhood growing up here. We definitely recommend the tour.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful 5-star review ! We are delighted that the tour was enjoyed by the various age groups in your family - especially the teens! It was a particularly wet day and yes, we have plan B & C lined up so that you still get a wholesome experience - we never run out of varieties of food ! Yes our guide Karlson enjoys 'showing off' our food varieties and eating out with 'friends' has been our target achieved so far😊. Thank you once again for the review which means a lot to us :=) Wishing you safe travels and more great memories when you revisit us!

Why this scores 89
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Petaling Jaya.
How much does Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night cost?
+
Prices start at $34 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Petaling Jaya usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Petaling Jaya is not rushed.
Is Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 89 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 208 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Petaling Jaya, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night?
+
Around 73 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Petaling Jaya can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Petaling Jaya and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Eat Like a Local: Kuala Lumpur Hawker Center and Street Food Tour by Night start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Petaling Jaya within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Petaling Jaya?
+
On Outty we rank every Petaling Jaya experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kuala Lumpur Airport (Arrival Pickup) KLIA/KLIA2, Kuala Lumpur Cruise Excursions from Port Klang for KL City Tour, Mystical Batu Caves, Ramayana Cave & Kanching Waterfalls. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Petaling Jaya?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Petaling Jaya?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
