Fun day on the river!
We took the Animas River half day float on a beautiful Durango day with our 12 year old son. We had a great time! From check in to drop off it was a good experience. Lots of parking next to the check in spot/store, and a really easy check in process. We wore board shorts and sun/swim shirts and rented wetsuit booties because we didn’t have water shoes. We brought along a few bottles of water but left our phones and valuables in the car. Safe location. The tops of my legs got sunburned, forgot to sunscreen. Our guide Hannah was awesome! Funny, informative, but most of all very experienced! Even though you go through some pretty good rapids and constantly navigating rocks, she made us feel safe and confident. We did a fair amount of our own paddling, but Hannah had us paddling like a well oiled Viking longboat, perfectly in unison. We got to do some swimming in the river and she made a raft water slide the kids loved. As first timers we were a little sore and sunburned, and wet from swimming, so the quarter day would have been a good option as well, but our son is still talking about if, so we feel like we made the right choice.

Awesome rafting in Durango!
Eric is an awesome guide. Really thoughtful instruction for us n00bs. We learned a ton. R2 all the way. We loved the rapids. Ask for the squirt guns. We’ll see you again!

Great Experience with Mountain Waters Rafting
We had an amazing time on our rafting trip with Mountain Waters Rafting! The entire experience was smooth and a lot of fun. Our guides, Colin and Eric, were absolutely fantastic and very knowledgeable on the water. We really enjoyed the trip and had fun trying out surfing on the rapids a couple of times. Highly recommend Mountain Waters if you’re looking for a memorable, fun rafting trip in Durango!
Response from the operator: Making memories since 1981! Durango's first raft company and still the best, thank you for the review!

Fun trip for kids!
Great first rafting trip for my kids! Haymo was a great guide, very nice. Enough little rapids to be fun, but not enough to make me nervous for my kids. Enjoyed the trip, but seemed a bit short in duration. Classic trip is supposed to be 3.5 hours. We left the office at 11:45 and returned at 2:05, makes me wonder if they shortened the trip? Other than that, it was great and i would go again. All the employees were very nice.
Response from the operator: We are so glad to hear you had a great time with Hamo! The trip timing includes your 30 minute prior arrival time, and 2 hours on the water. We apologize for the shorter duration of the trip. When we are having higher water flows, the river moves faster causing the trip to shorten a bit. We appreciate your feedback, and we will work on improving our timing. Thank you for choosing Mountain Waters Rafting!

Amazing family rafting with Lillian, best guide at Mountain Waters
Our guide Lillian was fun, upbeat and very informative! Make sure to get a great guide like Lillian and not those nuggets Bobby. Max, and Hamo 😉
Response from the operator: Lillian smokes you boys, she has set the bar high, good luck Bobby, Max and Hamo! :D

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Durango.
How much does Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip cost?
+
Prices start at $120 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Durango usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Durango is not rushed.
Is Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Durango, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Durango can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Durango and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Durango Kayaking - Half Day Trip start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Durango within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Durango?
+
Durango runs the Durango and Silverton narrow gauge steam railroad, Mesa Verde cliff dwelling tours, Animas River rafting, jeep trails and winter skiing at Purgatory. On Outty we rank every Durango experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Durango Colorado - Rafting 1/4 Day, Durango Half Day Rafting Trip - Lower Animas River, Durango 1/4 Day Rafting Trip - Lower Animas River. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Durango?
+
May to October, with the railroad running year-round in shorter form. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Durango?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
