The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
This is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin built after the great earthquake, because the original one was completely destroyed in the disaster. The original Cathedral was partially built with the money contributed by the English king Richard the Lion Heart in gratitude for surviving shipwreck nearby on his return from the Third Crusade. The southern wind called jugo that put Richard's ship in danger was disliked even on the land. During the former Republic of Dubrovnik, city officials avoided meetings and decision-making on a day with jugo wind because they said that the wind impaired their judgement. Even today, many people get moody and have a headache when jugo blows.

This is the old city port. The building on your left was the medieval Arsenal shipyard: sea-trade and shipbuilding drove the Republic's economy, and by the 16th century Dubrovnik had some 4,000 sailors, its fleet rivalling Venice's. Shipwrights built sturdy, simple "argosies" from wood, lasting up to 40 years; by the late 18th century the fleet numbered 230 ships crossing the Atlantic, backed by consulates in over 80 cities. Further left, across the port, stands Revelin fortress, guarding the Ploče gate. Along that shore sits the lazzaretti, a 1600s quarantine building where arrivals waited 30 days to prove they were plague-free; Dubrovnik set up Europe's first quarantine, on a nearby island, in 1377. On the right, the walls reach St John's Fortress, guarding the port from the sea, while a medieval breakwater at its center shelters ships from rough seas and the jugo wind.

Rector's Palace
This was the Rector's Palace, seat of the Rector who ruled with the Major and Minor Councils and the Senate. Elected by the Major Council for just one month to prevent abuse of power, he lived here during his term, rarely leaving except on official business, and kept the keys to the city gates. Power belonged strictly to the nobility; society split into nobles, wealthy "good citizens" without political rights, and commoners. Built in the 1400s by Onofrio della Cava, architect of the fountain seen earlier, the facade survived the great earthquake while the rest was rebuilt, blending Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. It housed the Rector's chambers, reception halls, armory, watch-house and prison. Today it's a museum with concerts in its atrium; visit after the tour if you like.

Couldn't use the tour - VoiceApp application did not work
I have nothing to offer other travelers, I could not get the VoiceApp to work. After multiple attempts to load, it still would not work. So, the purchase of the tour was wasted.
Response from the operator: Hi there, I'm sorry that you were unhappy with your experience. When you were having technical difficulties with downloading the App, did you contact VoiceMap support via email or telephone? We always recommend using Wifi for downloads. We are contactable by both telephone and email, so if you have technical difficulties, please reach out to us so we can identify what is going wrong. Again, I'm sorry about the poor experience you had. Regards Rory

Brilliant way to spend an hour in Dubrovnik
It’s brilliant, it’s informative and it’s very time effective. The instructions are clear with good advice on all the key parts to the city’s history. I’d recommend to any travellers not in pre-organised groups.

Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Dubrovnik.
How much does Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History cost?
+
Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Dubrovnik usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Dubrovnik is not rushed.
Is Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.1/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Dubrovnik, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Dubrovnik can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Dubrovnik and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Dubrovnik Old Town Self-Guided Tour: Game of Thrones & History start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Dubrovnik within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Dubrovnik?
+
On Outty we rank every Dubrovnik experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Dubrovnik: Game of Thrones Walking Tour, Dubrovnik: 7 Caves & Blue Cave Speedboat Tour (4h), Dubrovnik: Sunset Kayaking & Snorkeling with water &wine. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Dubrovnik?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Dubrovnik?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
