Most Rome tours tell you about emperors and battles. This one tells you what they were doing after dark, drink in hand. You'll hear how sex shaped Roman society and just how far the emperors went: love affairs, power plays, brothels and forbidden desires history books leave out. Stop 1: A terrace with a view of the Colosseum (no entry). Welcome prosecco, a shot, and the first stories. Stop 2: A restaurant in Monti. Pasta, pizza and a drink while stories get bolder. Stop 3: A cocktail bar. The most outrageous story of the night, and a signature cocktail to close. Walking is minimal: you stand for the prosecco and shot, then sit for dinner and the final cocktail. Small group, adults only: most guests say it felt less like a tour and more like a night out with friends.

    What you'll see and do

    1. This is our meeting point and also the first stop of the tour: a terrace with a view of the Colosseum. You'll be welcomed with a glass of prosecco and a shot while your host opens the evening with the first scandalous stories of ancient Rome: how emperors really lived, the truth about Roman marriage, and the secrets guidebooks leave out. It's the perfect spot to take photos of the Colosseum lit up at night before the group moves on to Monti for dinner.

      60 minutes here

    2. Rione Monti

The second stop is a restaurant in the heart of Rione Monti, Rome's old red-light district. Here you'll sit down for a proper dinner: pasta and pizza, with a drink included. While you eat, your host keeps the stories going, and they get bolder: Roman marriage, adultery, brothels and the daily habits ancient guidebooks never mention. It's also where the group really starts talking to each other, so expect new conversations and a few laughs at the table

60 minutes here · Admission included

    3. Rione Monti

The final stop is a cocktail bar in Monti, where the evening closes with a signature cocktail made for this experience. This is where your host saves the most outrageous story of the night: the scandal, the perversion, the detail that gets the biggest reaction from the group. You'll leave with a drink in hand, having heard the parts of ancient Roman history that no guidebook or daytime tour will tell you.

    Fun, entertaining tour

Our guide was a lady from Russia (can't remember her name). She was funny. She gave out some historical facts while we sipped prosecco. Asked questions. Lots of laughs. Bim celiac so the restaurant was able to accommodate me (GF pasta & pizza). Would recommend

    The best tour ever!!

Lots of Laughter, lots of great food, and lots of drinks. This is the best tour we had on our 2 weeks in 5 countries! You get interesting history your other guides left out, plus the sexual history too. You learn all the specifics on how a brothel worked, plus more. We enjoyed it and would have loved to hang out longer with our new friend.

Response from the operator: Best of five countries in two weeks is quite a title to hand us, Carrie. Thank you. The evening always runs long when the company is good, and your guide clearly enjoyed it too.

BEST!TOUR!EVER! I have never been on a tour filled with so much fun, laughter, great food, and alcohol! OMG. My entire group has been raving about how great this tour was and the most fun we have ever had learning history. If history was taught like this, I'd remember more of it. Elvira, our tour guide, top notch. She was engaging, funny, and even after the tour, helped us find our way back to the bus stop. Eni and his wife were awesome. We left wishing we weren't visiting and could make all three of them lifelong friends. The pasta and pizza was amazing. The sadness that overcame us because we realized we haven't been eating pizza and pasta the way it was intended at all. This is how its supposed to taste. And the stories we learned were intriguing and left us wanting to know more. Truly full of the scandalous accounts that were not in my history book. This is one for the books and will become a life-long memory. Fabulous!

Response from the operator: Elvira, Eni and his wife will all be delighted to read it, and the feeling was mutual on their side. Thank you for taking the time to write so generously. Come back to Rome and there will be a table waiting for you and your group.

One of the main highlights of our time in Rome

This was one of the main highlights of our time in Rome. The tour guide was super informative, entertaining, and laid back. It was fun to do this with another couple that we met on the tour and we ended up hanging out with them even after the tour was over. Would recommend to other adult couples coming to Rome and looking for a different kind of history of this amazing city. Must not be easily offended.

Response from the operator: Making friends on the tour and staying out with them afterwards is the best possible ending, Lauren. And yes, Rome's love stories are not for the easily offended. Thank you!

If you like fun, want incredible value, and are in Rome, you should make this part of it.

My wife and I couldn’t think of a better way to end our trip than this tour. One of the most incredible values I’ve seen on anything let aline the tours. We had already done a couple of different excursions and walking tours across the city of Rome, even some with overlap to this particular tour, but it was full of funny and interesting information. It was a different way to experience Rome. It wasn’t hamstrung by the extreme heat. It was brought to you with levity and fun by people who care both about the history and the tour itself, deeply. It started out with fun insights and frankly more accurate retellings of different areas that we had visited. The guide used resources to tell the stories and give visuals. Moreover, Eni was fun. The husband and wife team had a playful banter that kept things grounded and down to Earth. So many tours that we had on our trip it was almost impossible to ask a question or create a conversation. It was so hard to feel like it was OK to interrupt the flow and derail the journey with the rest of the group. We had a small group, but they poured into the experience for us in a way that I feel like really separated this tour from the others we had. As a history buff I thoroughly enjoy being able to discuss things with somebody who cared a lot and knew a lot while my wife also enjoyed just being able to experience the nightlife of the city get away a little bit from the heat and partake it as many drinks as we could fit into the time with someone who matched that energy. Most tours are not a “social” experience. The tour guide knew the restaurant owner where we had the best pizza of the trip, introduced us, rented out a private bar with an excellent mixologist, and even got us into the ice bar as the tour wound down. My wife and I are 2 fairly outgoing people that just spent three weeks basically with just one another and while we absolutely love spending time with one another, having somebody else to be a part of it and to share and give us insights on the city, especially the fun ones and silly ones as well as the deeply interesting and historical ones. I would recommend this tour to anybody, but especially those who are looking to experience Rome in a different way. People who want to talk and have questions and are enthusiastic both about people and the potential stories from Rome. I know, 20 years from now, the fun and interesting stuff from this tour is going to be the make up of dinner conversations for us. I think the tour guides are talented enough to adapt to any group, or people, but for us it was awesome to talk to people who we felt a kinship with.

Response from the operator: Thank you, Eugene. Eni and the banter, the pizza, the private bar, and knowing you'll still be telling these stories in twenty years is exactly what we hoped this night would be.

Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails cost?

    +

Prices start at €89 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 78 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 77 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails?

    +

Around 27 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Drunken History Rome: Colosseum Terrace, Dinner & Cocktails start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

    +

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pizza & Gelato Class with Wine by Cooking Italy, Rome [4in1] Pasta Making_Tiramisù_Wine Tasting_Secret Cellar, Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

    +

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
