When you go inside the tunnel, it whispers to you the secrets of this world and the old history of this temple built in 1297.

  2. Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep

Re-board the minivan and drive rolling hills surrounding Chiang Mai to experience the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep. Then Climb a staircase of 306 steps leading to Doi Suthep temple. This staircase leading to the site is adorned with the impressive body of the mythical dragon-headed serpent, or Naga, snaking its way down 306 steps. This is definitely the best way to approach the temple but there is also a funicular railway if you are less steady on your feet. Reaching the top, admire the Lanna-style golden pagoda covered with engraved gold plates, flanked by four ornamental umbrellas, and a fantastic Night city view from the mountain.

Disappointed

I was very disappointed in the organization of the trip. The tour itself was lovely but the communication lacked greatly. They picked up everyone else for the tour at their hotels like advertised except for my friend and I. Apparently we we weren't picked up because we were not on the side of town everyone else was mind you they never communicated this. If I hadn't phoned them we would've missed the tour because we were waiting in the lobby as advertised. The tour guide was great. The temple beautiful but I would not book another activity with them. They also dropped us off at a drop off and everyone else at their hotels no consideration whatsoever.

Amazing

Just a cathartic evening of spirituality. Rising above Chiang Mai to witness the majestic grounds of this temple was amazing.

Nice experience

Nice small group and knowledgeable and friendly tour guide. Both sites also have lots of history and worth seeing up close. Would have been nice to watch the sunset from the viewing platform at the top of the steps but that aside, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for your kind review. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the small-group experience and that our tour guide made the visit both informative and friendly. We appreciate your suggestion regarding the sunset viewing from the top platform. Feedback like this is very valuable and will be shared with our team as we continue to improve the experience for our guests. We’re very glad you still thoroughly enjoyed the trip overall, and we hope to welcome you again in the future for another memorable experience. Best Regards, Oh-Hoo Team

Magical Evening Tour

We had an absolutely wonderful time visiting both sites. We chose the evening tour and were not disappointed. The air-conditioned van ride, both Pick Up and Drop Off to and from hotel, was safe and comfortable. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, attentive, respectful and friendly. He was mindful of the range of ages and needs in his group, and provided support when needed. He took the time to highlight interesting historical references, meanings, and insights we would otherwise have missed. Doi Suthep was especially stunning, a feast for the eyes that left us speechless and in awe. It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your beautiful and detailed review. We’re absolutely delighted to hear that you had such a wonderful experience on the evening tour. It’s great to know that the pick-up and drop-off were comfortable and smooth, and that you felt well taken care of throughout the journey. We’re especially pleased that your guide made a meaningful difference by sharing historical insights and being attentive to the needs of the group. Thank you again for your kind words. We would be honored to welcome you back for another memorable journey in the future. Best Regards, Oh-Hoo Team

Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chiang Mai.

How much does Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai cost?

+

Prices start at $670 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chiang Mai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chiang Mai is not rushed.

Is Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chiang Mai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai?

+

Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chiang Mai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chiang Mai and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Doi Suthep and Wat Umong Night Tour From Chiang Mai start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chiang Mai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Chiang Mai?

+

On Outty we rank every Chiang Mai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Thai Cooking Class at Organic Farm in Chiang Mai, Full Day Thai Cooking at Farm (Chiang Mai), Thai and Akha Cooking Class in Chiang Mai. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Chiang Mai?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Chiang Mai?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
