About this experience
Michalis and Rachel welcome you to our home City, Athens. When you arrive our tour shows you where to eat and shop to experience the best fresh products Athens has to offer. Please note we do not offer food on this tour. Are you keen to learn about how and where Athenians shop and eat but dont have the usual four hours to spend on it? Then join our 2 hour walking and shopping tour and let us introduce you to the spice, fruit, meat and fish markets and enjoy a Greek coffee made the traditional way from the oldest coffee shop in Athens! You will have an opportunity to buy herbs, spices, olives, olive oil, natural soap products etc at local prices. Whilst we do not eat on this tour, you will be introduced to the tavernas and bars where we, like many other Athenians, go to eat and drink! Dont waste time on touristic food when you could go to authentic, traditional places and eat the freshest food in Athens.

The best food tour in Athens!
If you are looking for the best food/market tour in Athens, look no further! We did a private tour (4 of us) and visited the meat market, the fish market, a local butcher, shops that sold honey, olive oil, olives... We began at a bakery and tasted fresh spanakopita and a flaky cheese pastry (sorry, don't know the name) and both were delicious! Every place we visited we tasted or sampled the local goods, with exception of the meat and fish markets. Plus we had two lunches - wine included! EVERYWHERE we went our guide, Michalis, was greeted if were a celebrity! His knowledge and passion for all things Greek was contagious. When I'm in Athens again I would not hesitate to book another tour with Michalis, Rachel his wife, or anybody on his team. I highly recommend this tour and my advice is to go hungry!!
Response from the operator: Thank you for your kind review. We appreciate you choosing us and very pleased to know you enjoyed it.

A Truly Wonderful Food Tour Experience
We had an amazing food tour in Athens with Rachel. She was warm, kind, and truly lovely, and gave us fascinating insights into Greek culture and the people behind it. She took us to wonderful family-owned businesses, introduced us to incredibly welcoming locals, and provided detailed and engaging explanations for every tasting. The food was outstanding and the overall experience was unforgettable. Highly recommended!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much Afik. It was a real pleasure to host you both. I hope to see you back in Athens again one day soon.

Why this scores 73
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Discover the food markets of hidden Athens: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.
How much does Discover the food markets of hidden Athens cost?
+
Prices start at $26 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Discover the food markets of hidden Athens take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.
Is Discover the food markets of hidden Athens worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 17 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Discover the food markets of hidden Athens?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Discover the food markets of hidden Athens suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Discover the food markets of hidden Athens?
+
Around 6 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Discover the food markets of hidden Athens start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Athens?
+
On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Athens?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Athens?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
