The Obelisk of Montevideo, officially listed as the Obelisco a los Constituyentes de 1830, is a monument created by sculptor José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín. This famous sculpture is dedicated to the legendary gauchos who created the impressive cattle market of Uruguay. Monumento la Carreta was created in honor of the ox-cart drivers of the 19th century. The bronze and granite sculpture was created in 1934 and was recently restored by the artist’s grandson. It is registered as a National Historic Monument.
