Walking tour of Communa 13

This tour was the highlight of our entire trip! Christian was our tour guide and he was exceptional. He explained very clearly the history of Medellin, the various communas that currently exist, the social structure and talked about the transformation of communal 13. He was born and raised in Communa 13. His narration of entire story was very powerful as it included his personal experiences too. We walked through the regular touristy parts - took the escalators to the very top and Christian also took us through a path that is not widely taken by tourists. We an amazing group perform breakdance and another perform rap. Christian explained the meaning behind some graffiti art and got us to taste the local ice cream. Our experience was extra special because of Christian. Christian speaks excellent English as he is an English teacher by profession! I would highly recommend this tour and Christian as a tour leader.

Great tour with great guide

My boyfriend and I had an amazing tour! The guide (Sergio) was super kind and knew excellent English. He showed us not only the touristy places but also the actual neighborhood. We visited a few galeries and he had excellent recommendations for things around the town. He was passionate about the history and told us all about it. He was very friendly and answered many questions. Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Fun and loud!

I was given the wrong address for the Departure so after some clarification I walked to the San Javier station to meet my guide. The walk through Communa 13 was fun like always. Seeing the people is always great and hearing the music and motorcycles were loud so I was not able to hear my guide very much but it was still fun to be there during nightfall. It's a different vibe in the evening and makes for a different experience. If you want to learn from your guide then you should go earlier in the day. If you want a different vibe on the community then go in the evening.

Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Medellín.

How much does Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide cost?

+

Prices start at $1 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Medellín usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide take?

+

Plan for about 2.7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Medellín is not rushed.

Is Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Medellín, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2.7-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Medellín can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Medellín and add a light layer if any part of the 2.7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Discover Commune 13 completely with a local guide start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Medellín within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Medellín?

+

On Outty we rank every Medellín experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guatapé Tour: Piedra del Peñol with Boat Tour, Breakfast, Lunch, Half-Day Coffee Tour: From the Seed to the Cup, Farm & roastery, Private Guatape & Coffee Farm Tour: The Two Must do in One Day. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Medellín?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Medellín?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
