Wat Mahathat is one of the oldest and most significant temples in the history of Ayutthaya as it housed the Buddha's holy relic. The temple is located in the area of the Ayutthaya Historical Park. where important royal ceremonies of the Ayutthaya era were held.

Historic City of Ayutthaya
The Historic City of Ayutthaya, founded in 1350. The city was attacked and razed by the Burmese army in 1767 who burned the city to the ground and forced the inhabitants to abandon the city. The city was never rebuilt in the same location and remains known today as an extensive archaeological site. Ayutthaya is now an archaeological ruin, characterized by the remains of tall prang (reliquary towers) and Buddhist monasteries of monumental proportions, which give an idea of the city’s past size and the splendor of its architecture.

Wat Phra Sri Sanphet
The Temple is not only a significant historical site, but also considered as the spiritual centre of Thais for a long time. Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is the royal monastery and therefore no monk is allowed to reside. At the heart of the temple, there are three adjacent Ceylonese (or bell-shaped) pagodas situated on rectangular platforms. It is believed that these platforms were the base of royal houses in the Ayutthaya period.

Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit
Phra Mongkhon Bophit is one of the largest bronze Buddha images in Thailand with its measures of (approx) 9.5 meters across the lap and a height of 12.5 meters (without the pedestal). The Buddha image is seated in the position of Subduing Mara. Wat Mongkhon Bophit is an 'active' temple compound, and throughout the day many people visit and worship the Buddha image.

Built in 1630 by King Prasat Thong to honor his mother, Wat Chai Wattanaram was conceived as a replica of the Angkor temple. The architectural style influenced by Angkor temple in Cambodia-its unique feature is a large, central prang (Khmer-style pagoda) surrounded by smaller prangs.

Bang Pa-In Palace is ancient palace back to Ayutthaya era. The Royal Palace at Bang Pa-In has a history dating back to the 17 th century. The tour of Ayutthaya...
The tour of Ayutthaya with Wat was fantastic! He is a super knowledgable guide whose primary concern was to ensure everything was tailored exactly to our needs. We were a family of 4 (parents in 50/60’s, kids in 20’s) and the day was perfect for what we wanted to see. Wat made sure that everyone was comfortable and able to walk far enough in the hottest part of the day, and also made time for us have 40 mins to have lunch as we were hungry. Additionally the driver was very polite and good at driving- not like any of the other scary experiences in Bangkok taxis! Overall, I’d highly recommend this tour to anybody wanting to see the history of Thailand whilst in the hustle and bustle of Bangkok!

Unforgettable day in Ayutthaya
Our trip to Ayutthaya was fantastic, thanks to our guide Rawat and our driver Pat. We visited the Summer Palace, as well as several historic sites, including Wat Mahathat, where the famous Buddha head entwines in tree roots; Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the former royal temple with its majestic stupas and Wat Phra Mongkhon Bophit. One unplanned stop was the visit to the serene Wat Yai Chaya Mongkol, a local temple that we enjoyed greatly. Each stop was rich in history, meaning and spiritual beauty. Rawat was very passionate about Thai history and heritage. He answered my many questions about Thai culture and architecture with enthusiasm and deep knowledge. Rawat gave us a perfect balance of guidance and space to explore and made sure we were always comfortable. He even offered to take picture of us at unique spots, which we considered extremely thoughtful and kind. Our driver, Pat, was professional, friendly and kind: she made the journey feel safe and smooth. At the end of our trip she even shared with us some info about the Asana Bucha day celebration so that we could join them. This trip was a perfect mix of history, culture, beauty, and warm hospitality. We left with beautiful memories, a deeper appreciation for Thai culture, and hearts full of gratitude. We highly recommend Rawat and Pat.
