Wonderful Scottish culinary experience

Joanne took us to amazing restaurants where we had elevated versions of classic Scottish dishes. Plus she shared her expertise of whisky over a dram of single malt. Very fun and relaxing and Joanne is a delightful host.

Response from the operator: We’re so delighted to hear you had a good time on tour! It’s always nice when guests enjoy both the tastings and the local perspective we share. We’d love to see you again on another Swirl Sip Socialise experience soon!

Taste of Edinburgh

We kicked off our 3 week Scotland adventure in Edinburgh. We had scheduled on our second night private dinner, wine/whisky tour with Joanne, and it remains one of the highlights of our time in beautiful Scotland. Joanne has an incredible wealth of knowledge about all things grape (wine, champagne), whisky and food. We went to restaurants that showcased what Edinburgh had to offer in modern cuisine, and it was excellent. We started out at Hawksmoor Edinburgh for appetizers, champagne, and Greek white wine. I still think about those West Coast Scallops. Then we meandered over to Twenty Princes Street for the main, Chateaubriand, paired with some excellent red wine from France, whisky from Bruichladdich and 15 year old Dalwhinnie. We capped off the evening over at Johnnie Walkers 1820 rooftop bar for Crannichan and Hibiscus dessert cocktail with beautiful nighttime views of the city to boot. I was enthralled with the dessert cocktail flavor profile. Who knew whisky and hibiscus would pair so well. We really enjoyed having Joanne as our guide for the evening. It set a positive tone for this once in a lifetime trip. She made us feel welcomed and it was like old friends getting together for a night on the town.

Like a fairytale

We had quite big expectations and still she managed to surprise us with insights and new ideas. We went to three sceneries with a short walk between. There were combinations of wine and food that were quite new to us and very interesting. Her methods were simple and still sophisticated and she had a lot of surprises up the sleeve. She gave us the feeling that we had the tools to analyse wine just by using our senses. She was very knowledgeable helpful and friendly with an easy way of communicating. We can highly recommend this tour and hope one day to be back and book another.

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for the wonderful review! I am so pleased you enjoyed your afternoon with me and your wine and food pairing experience. I hope you will enjoy swirling, sipping a savouring wines together! Best wishes, Joanne

Joanne is AMAZING! We went to spa we would have never known existed, given our short time here. We had the best food, wine and dessert cocktail. Highly recommend!

Response from the operator: Thanks for reviewing the tour! It was so fun taking you to my favourite places in Edinburgh! The food was great and I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! Thanks, Joanne

Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Edinburgh.

How much does Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier cost?

+

Prices start at $495 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Edinburgh usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Edinburgh is not rushed.

Is Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 53 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Edinburgh, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 18. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier?

+

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Edinburgh can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Edinburgh and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Dinner and Private Tour with your Personal Scottish Sommelier start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Edinburgh within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Edinburgh?

+

On Outty we rank every Edinburgh experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Edinburgh: Loch Ness, Glencoe and The Highlands, Edinburgh: Glenfinnan Viaduct, Glencoe & Fort William, Edinburgh Ghost Tour: Mysteries, Legends and Murders. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Edinburgh?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Edinburgh?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
