    Detroit History & Food Tour

Jim sent us a text reminder the morning of our tour. The meeting spot was the Spirit of Detroit statue and was easy to find. He met us at the statue right at 11:30am as we was running a little late. We checked in and started promptly. Unfortunately, so did the karaoke behind us. So it was a little difficult to hear Jim while we were at the statue. If you have never done one of these tours, the guide goes over the history of the city your in, the areas you walk through and the food you are going to enjoy. A couple of my siblings were not aware of this and joked if there was actually food on this food tour as it took about 30 minutes to get to the first spot. This didn't bother me, just a heads up. I can't recommend upgrading to the drink package. For $44/person its extremely over priced for only 2 drinks, a cocktail and a beer. There should have been a third drink in the middle of the tour for this price. We had a discount code, but it didn't apply to the drink package, only the tour. Avoid the markup and just buy your drink directly from the establishment while there. I enjoyed learning about a place I had never been by a local and tasting the local food along the way. Jim was a good guide & I would recommend this tour.

Response from the operator: We were pleased to have you with us. Thank you for making Secret Food Tours part of your visit and for taking the time to share your thoughts. We look forward to hosting you again!

    Food and history in Detroit

Jim was a great tour guide! Having grown up in the city, he obviously had a lot to say about it history, the good times and the bad, over both the last few decades,l and since the City‘s birth. The food stops were all excellent, and well-timed along the route, and he asked at the beginning if we all minded the tour running over since he always had a lot to say- no one disapproved.

Response from the operator: Thank you for choosing Secret Food Tours! Your review is appreciated, and we're glad you took the time to share it. We hope to see you again.

Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Detroit.

How much does Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City cost?

    +

Prices start at $98 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Detroit usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Detroit is not rushed.

Is Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 65 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Detroit, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City?

    +

Around 23 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Detroit can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Detroit and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Detroit Downtown Food Tour with 6+ Iconic Tastings in Motor City start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Detroit within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Detroit?

    +

Detroit tours cover Motown Museum and music history, Eastern Market murals, Ford factory and auto heritage, riverfront cycling and Belle Isle, plus a strong food-tour scene. On Outty we rank every Detroit experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Best Detroit Architecture Walking Tour: Inside Access & Landmarks, Detroit Sweet Treats Food Tour: Donuts, Coffee, Pastries & More, Detroit's Hidden History Guided Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Detroit?

    +

May to October. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Detroit?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
