Terrible experience- avoid this tour group and viator/trip advisor

The tour guide never showed up. I was unable to contact the tour operator via Any means (email, phone, viator app). I spent 2 hrs online with Viator customer service. They were unable to contact the tour operator. The tour operator never contacted myself or viator to explain or rebook. Never the less viator refused to refund the money (again despite viator also being unable to contact the tour operator) forcing me to file a claim with my credit card company to get the refund (which my credit card company immediately refunded after I sent them the whatsapp chat with viator customer service.) .Don't take this tour or use this tour group . You should seriously reconsider using Viator/TripAdvisor at all due to the horrendous way they handled this.

    The highlight of our trip

Our guide was Stefan and he made the entire experience a memory we will treasure forever. Stefan picked us up promptly at 7am in a air conditioned car. We stopped for coffee and breakfast along our way to the mountain. He was very informative on the trip and conversation was easy with him. The trek was challenging but not overly difficult. It took us 3 hours to reach the summit. We were glad that we brought two bottles of water each, wore long pants but I wish I had brought actual trekking shoes. Along the way Stefan was very attentive to not only us but other trekkers too. Offering advice and encouragement to everyone. We stopped at a lake for a break and reached the summit in three hours. The feeling we had once we reached the peak was exhilarating. The decent down the mountain was very difficult but again Stefan was patient and told us exactly how to climb down the mountain. By the time we reached the car we had been on the mountain for 5 hours. I enjoyed driving on the famous Transfagarasan and enjoyed taking pictures of the actual fortress of Vlad the Impaler. We stopped for a well deserved dinner at a restaurant before heading back home. Stefan was great and made sure we were comfortable and happy throughout our experience. Although it is possible to do this trek on your own, I would not recommend doing it without a guide. There were so many times that I was glad we were with an expert and our experience could have been disappointing without a guide. If you only do 1 thing in Romania this should be it.

One of the most memorable trips of a lifetime

Because of the cold weather, our amazing guide Stefan took us on a canyon hike that turned out to be a better option for us. It was beautiful, exhilarating, and great fun. Viator should list this canyon hike as an option. We stopped for a great breakfast on the way because it was early. Stefan always made sure we were safe and comfortable. And he took great pictures we will treasure forever. Thank you!

    unforgettable

This was a hike i will never forget. Sorin was very friendly and a fantastic guide. He went out of his way to make the experience as fantastic as it was. The view is one you can't forget. It was a challenging hike due to the snow and ice but Sorin was a great guide and helped me along the way. This is a great way to see the true beauty Romania and get away from the typical tourists attractions.

This was my TOP pick of everything...

This was my TOP pick of everything we did in Europe. We went through small villages, found ourselves in some marvelous Sheep Herder traffic jams on our way up to the mountain, and meeting so many amazing locals. Had lunch by a glacier lake. Epic!

Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Brasov.

How much does Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop cost?

    +

Prices start at $240 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Brasov usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop take?

    +

Plan for about 24 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Brasov is not rushed.

Is Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Brasov, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 24-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Brasov can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Brasov and add a light layer if any part of the 24-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Day Trek to Romania's Rooftop start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Brasov within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Brasov?

    +

On Outty we rank every Brasov experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include 3-Castle: Peles,Bran,Rasnov,Sinaia Monastery from Brasov w pickup, From Brasov: Bran, Rasnov & Peles Castles Small-Group Tour, Sighisoara, Viscri & Rupea Small-Group Tour from Brasov. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Brasov?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Brasov?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

    +

Included: Hotel pickup and drop-off; National Park fees; Professional Mountain Guide; Use of helmet; and Local taxes. Not included: Personal expenses; Food & drinks; and Cable car if necessary. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
