Although this was a very long day, the tour was wonderful through beautiful countryside and the fortress at the top was very much worth it. We were only a small group of four and our tour guide, Velko, kept us very well informed and entertained all day. He was so good humoured and recommended a great restaurant for lunch, which we all enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Beautifull city and wonderfull guide
We did this trip because the rila monastery and the 7 lakes were cancelled due to bad weather. But we are very happy with this afterwards. It was a very nice day with the most fun and interesting person we met in Bulgaria: our guide Velko. We will definitely be back and definitely take Velko back as our guide. But for via ferrata and mountain climbing.

Amazing day in Veliko Tarnovo
It was a wonderful experience. We had two tour guides, Ves, for the trip and Avery gracious Bulgarian lady, both were outstanding. They were friendly, polite, accommodating, and knowledgeable.. Veliko Tarnovo is a gem and I strongly believe that it should be visited for one day with one of these tours.

+

How far in advance should I book Day tour from Sofia to the former capital Veliko Tarnovo?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sofia can sell out a month out. What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sofia and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Sofia?
+
On Outty we rank every Sofia experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communist Walking Tour of Sofia, Sofia Highlights 2 Hour Sightseeing Walking Tour, Sofia Escape Room - Teorema Rooms. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Sofia?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Sofia?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
