Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai (Vergina)
The tour begins from Thessaloniki following the National Road to reach the Royal Tombs of Vergina. The small village became very famous in 1977-78 due to the discovery of the Royal Tombs by the prominent Greek Professor and Archaeologist Andronicos. It was known with the name Aigai, was the first capital of Ancient Macedonia until 400 BC, when transferred to Pella and was supposed to be the burial place of all Macedonian Kings. Make your way inside the subterranean structure, accompanied by your guide and feast your eyes on some of the most important objects, which once belonged to Philip II – the King’s shield adorned with ivory and gold, the King’s gold-trimmed iron breast plate, Gold Diadems of unparalleled craftsmanship, the Golden Wreath of oak leaves, the gold plated collar and the Silver Burial Ums. Listen carefully, as your guide explains how inside the tomb of King Philip, a Golden Chest was discovered, containing the King’s bones, washed with wine and wrapped in purple cloth.

Terrible
The operator canceled 15 minutes after the pickup time. They said that they received the order last minute because of a system issue. But we put the order two days ago! We found just the same excuse to the same complaint as this in the review. It is obvious that the operator repeats such a cancellation so many times.. Time is invaluable for tourists. If they canceled beforehand, we could book other tours. This was an extremely disappointing event and we were so unhappy.

I had a really good...
I had a really good experience on this day trip. I get car sick quite easily, but the driver drove safely and didn’t speed, which made the journey much more comfortable. They were friendly, shared interesting information along the way, and everything was well organized. I’d recommend this tour.

Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Thessaloniki.
How much does Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup cost?
+
Prices start at $110 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Thessaloniki usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Thessaloniki is not rushed.
Is Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 36 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Thessaloniki, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup?
+
Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Thessaloniki can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Thessaloniki and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Day Tour at Royal Tombs of Aigai and Museum of Pella with pickup start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Thessaloniki within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Thessaloniki?
+
On Outty we rank every Thessaloniki experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Gastronomic Food Tour in Thessaloniki with a Chef, Discover Vergina and Pella: Day Trip to Macedonian Kingdom, Full-Day Trip to Meteora from Thessaloniki. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Thessaloniki?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Thessaloniki?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
