Batu Caves
Batu Caves is a limestone hill that has a series of caves and cave temples in Gombak, Selangor. The limestone forming Batu Caves is said to be around 400 million years old. Some of the cave entrances were used as shelters by the indigenous Temuan people (a tribe of Orang Asli). The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia. Batu Caves in short also referred as 10th Caves or Hill for Lord Murugan as there are six important holy shrines in India and four more in Malaysia. The three others in Malaysia are Kallumalai Temple in Ipoh, Tanneermalai Temple in Penang and Sannasimalai Temple in Malacca. Note: - Keeping your eyes open to be aware of the monkeys. Don’t feed them! - Hold cameras close and use a neck strap if you have one. - Please don’t carry any plastic bags, monkeys will aggressive on this.

I had booked this tour...
I had booked this tour well in advance so when the day came was looking forward to it and was waiting outside our hotel (the designated pick up point I had listed when booking) at 9AM. When no driver had shown up by 9:10, I tried to call the tour operator to check if the driver was running late or what was going on (note: they will not answer the phone but only communicate with you via WhatsApp text messages - while this is annoying, it is also not uncommon practice in SE Asia so cannot fault this company specifically for that). When I managed to contact the company, they claimed they had no record of my booking, despite the fact I had multiple emails from Viator confirming the booking and had indeed actually paid the full amount for the tour already. After a long back and forth and after I sent them a screenshot of the booking confirmation and explained that I had already paid for this they then scrambled to try and arrange a last minute driver for us. While we did finally get a driver, this was not until 11AM - 2 hours of delay and a very stressful experience. The two hour delay also meant we did not get lunch until 3PM as apparently the order of the tour - including the lunch stop - can't be changed even if the start time is delayed. The guide we got (Mr Rajan) was excellent and the tour itself (once we actually managed to get going) was good - even though the hot springs were closed for renovation. However, the disorganization of the company in losing our booking and the stress and delay it caused made this a significantly disappointing experience. Maybe consider booking with a different operator to avoid this experience...

Very interesting but you...
Very interesting but you must be prepared to climb to both the caves and the waterfalls. Our guide was friendly and informative. Waterfalls were pleasant but not spectacular - the monkeys were the stars of that part of the tour. I was worried that the factory visits would be awkward and hard sell but not at all. Both were informative - there were of course opportunities to buy but did not feel pressured. Everything was in and around the city so we didn’t have to drive too far. All in we were happy with our experience.

Waterfall hiking and Batu Caves are worth seeing
Kumar our driver is a good guide as well as driving us around. Though he was humble by calling himself “I’m just a driver”. He has local knowledge about places where he took us.

Average tour, guide could have made it better.
The waterfall is very beautiful and the hike is moderate.Batu caves are very beautiful but overly touristy and crowded. The hot springs were not great. Out of the 4 tours we had there our guide, Hai, was the worst, he didn’t share much knowledge, didn’t offer to get out of the car to take a picture, basically just drove us around. Every other guide we had in KL got out and walked and helped us take pictures.
