What you get
About this experience
Naples is a city with an unmistakable pulse, where centuries of history, everyday street life and one of Italy’s richest culinary traditions all collide. We’ll begin in the historic center with Neapolitan coffee, sfogliatella and babà before diving into traditional food shops for limoncello, seasonal street food and, naturally, pizza in more than one form. From there, we’ll move beyond the old city walls into lively market neighborhoods rarely explored by visitors. Along the way, we’ll stop at a baccaleria devoted to salt cod, taste mineral-rich water from Vesuvius and visit a family-run bakery to prepare Neapolitan caponata with freselle, mozzarella and piennolo tomatoes. Throughout the day, we’ll meet the bakers, vendors, shopkeepers and artisans who keep Naples’ food traditions alive.

Unique food experience
Our family learned so much about the city of Napoli and street food culture on this tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly and made sure to help keep us comfortable in the heat and sudden downpour of rain. Unfortunately in August some of the shops are closed that are typically part of the tour, so just keep that in mind and maybe book before the Ferragosto holidays. It was a one of a kind experience!
Response from the operator: Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with us in Napoli. We deeply appreciate your support of the local culinary heroes who keep the city's rich street food traditions alive, even during the quiet of Ferragosto. It is a joy to share the complex, daily life of the city with travelers like your family, rain or shine.

10/10 Naples Food Tour (Culinary Backstreets)
We took the food tour with Culinary Backstreets in Naples, led by our guide Chiara, and it was one of the highlights of our trip! The tour went well off the beaten path and gave us a real sense of local cuisine. Neapolitan pizza was the obvious highlight, but other standout bites included — cod ceviche and burrata. Beyond the food, Chiara wove in stories about Naples’ history and culture throughout the day, which added real depth to the experience. One unexpected stop was meeting Pasquale De Stefano, Naples’ last traditional sign maker, recently profiled in the New York Times. Watching him work was a fun detour from the food itself. Chiara made the day. She was lovely, energetic, and genuinely fun to spend time with. I’d recommend her and this tour to any food-loving traveler visiting Naples.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the wonderful review. We are so glad Chiara could share the authentic daily life of Naples with you, from the traditional kitchens to the workshop of artisans like Pasquale. By walking with us, you are directly helping to support these unsung heroes and preserve the city's deeply rooted cultural and culinary traditions.

Naples culinary tour.
Tour leader was good. Tour started with at least 3 stops involving bread. The final stop was essentially a full meal including pizza pasta meatballs which was delicious but most of us very relatively full at that juncture. Did Istanbul with your company which was fabulous with more variety at the stops.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the review and for continuing your journey with us after exploring Istanbul. We appreciate your thoughts on the pacing of the stops, as we always seek to authentically share the hearty daily life and traditional dishes of Naples. Thank you for supporting these unsung culinary heroes and helping preserve their family-run kitchens.

Excellent backstreets food tour
Amazing tour of Naples backstreets food spots with Stefania. She provided us with excellent inside tips and recommendations for restaurants and what to do during the rest of our stay.
Response from the operator: Thank you for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed exploring the daily life and flavors of Naples alongside Stefania. Your participation helps us support the neighborhood's unsung culinary heroes and preserve these deeply rooted food traditions. We hope to share more stories from the backstreets with you in the future.

Why this scores 88
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.
How much does Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets cost?
+
Prices start at $25 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.
Is Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 88 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 216 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most highly reviewed in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets?
+
Around 76 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Culinary Secrets of Backstreet Naples with Culinary Backstreets start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Naples?
+
On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Naples?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Naples?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
