Ovcara Memorial Center
The Ovčara memorial home is the place where many civilians and wounded in the Homeland War died during the aggression and occupation of Vukovar in 1991. The hangar where the crimes took place, in memory of the victims, was turned into a modern memorial center that covers about 300 square meters. The entire Ovčara Memorial Home is in the dark, because the crimes took place at night.

Memorijalno Groblje Vukovar
The Memorial Cemetery of Homeland War Victims is the largest mass grave in Europe after II. World War. They say that a picture says more than a thousand words, but actually being in this place is an indescribable experience. The words remain in the air and your only desire is to store the image of a field with 938 white crosses, each of which symbolizes one victim, exhumed here, in this place where you are standing. Place of Remembrance - Vukovar Hospital 1991
The atmosphere that reigned in the Vukovar hospital in the autumn of 1991 is shown here in a poignant way - a moment frozen in time. In the basement of the Vukovar Hospital, the lives of several hundred wounded and hospital staff during the months-long occupation of the city have been faithfully reconstructed. You are offered with a multimedia presentation of wartime events inside the hospital during the fall of 1991. For the permanent exhibition, a material so common for hospital everyday life - plaster - was used - figures of people were made from it in order to evoke the time that has stopped here in the space.

Vukovar Water Tower
Vukovar Water Tower is a symbol of Croatian unity and it has recently become a member of the World Federation of Great Towers (in the company of the Eiffel Tower, Empire State Building, Burj Khalifa and other world-famous towers). The tower was directly hit 640 times, despite this, it remained intact and in the same place for the entire time of the battle for the city this is why its wounds and scars, proves the effort and sacrifice of all Croats for a free Croatia. There you take a scenic view of the city and Danube river from the tower.

A warning against the atrocities of war
I visited Vukovar two weeks ago, at the beginning of a trip to the Balkans, with some friends. We visited the Water Tower, symbol of the heroic resistance of the inhabitants of Vukovar in the siege of the Serbs in 1991 (in November 35 years will have passed already) and the town, where many buildings still bear the wounds of the terrible assaults of the Serbs. We also visited the open countryside agricultural hangar, where 261 Croatian citizens who had found refuge in the hospital in Ovcara were transported. In the hangar there is an interesting and touching memorial, whose walls illuminate the faces and names of the murdered victims. The monument has its fulcrum in a central spiral of light and the ceiling stars, symbolizing the sacrifice of so many innocents. Under a display case, which runs all around the walls, are the personal belongings found in the mass grave that was discovered a few hundred meters from the hangar, between Ovčara and Grabovo, where today stands a black stone monument. A warning that such madness should never happen again. Finally, the entire floor is covered with thousands of shell casings used by Serbian militias for the massacre. I strongly recommend visiting Vukovar so as not to forget the atrocities of our very civilised Europe.

Memorable and emotional visit to Vukovar
We had the privilege of experiencing Vukovar with Josip as our guide, and it was truly unforgettable. He took us on a deeply moving journey through some of the most significant sites – the iconic Water Tower, the war memorial, the local hospital, the army barracks, and the Ovcara memorial. Josip’s knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to share the stories behind each place made the experience both educational and profoundly emotional. He didn’t just guide us through history; he brought it to life with compassion and respect for those who lived through it. It was an incredibly powerful journey that I will carry with us forever. Emotional and inspiring tour
I went on this tour with a group of friends to get to know the history and the whole story of this country better. The trip was very emotional and inspiring, to see that complete destruction of the city to today's hope for a better tomorrow. The city museum very nicely presented all the history of the entire area, from the wealth of the region to the destruction in the war and the current situation with the hope that the city will be like it used to be once in better times. A great recommendation for everyone who ever visits Croatia to go on this trip to create whole image of country which is not just sea and sun.
