The instructor is so thorough. No details missed. Even the tiniest detail. An incredibly talented instructor who taught the class very well. Even our little children loved the class and would love to go back. I will be recommending this class to all my friends and family

More Than a Souvenir — Something Meaningful You Make Yourself
This workshop gives you the opportunity to learn about the Korean tradition of personal seals and then carve one of your own by hand. Led by award-winning calligrapher and seal artist Jeongju Kim at Feel So Good Calli in Insadong, it was equal parts cultural lesson, creative workshop, and an opportunity to make a truly personal souvenir from Korea. Before we carved anything, Jeongju explained the tradition behind Korean seals and how they can mark different stages of a person’s life. Koreans may receive them from family when they’re young, from teachers around graduation, or acquire another later in adulthood. Learning that history before making my own gave the finished piece considerably more meaning than simply completing a craft project. Most people in my workshop chose to carve their names. Naturally, I decided to make things a little more complicated. 😂 Instead, I wanted my seal to say “Freedom to Follow,” a phrase that has personal meaning for me. Jeongju translated it into Korean and helped me figure out how to lay it out across the stone. That willingness to work with an idea beyond the standard name seal immediately made the experience feel personal rather than templated. Also, you don’t immediately get handed a carving tool and hope for the best. We practiced first — lines, branches, a moon, snowflakes — while Jeongju demonstrated the techniques and moved around the room helping everyone before we started carving our actual seals. I even made a mistake while carving mine. But that’s also part of why I love the finished piece. It isn’t machine-perfect. I made it, mistake and all, and there will never be another one exactly like it. One practical consideration: Feel So Good Calli is on the third floor of an older building with no elevator, so be prepared for the stairs. I came expecting to make a Korean seal. I left with something I created with my own hands that carries a meaning I chose for myself. An absolutely wonderful experience and one of my favorite souvenirs from South Korea.

Fantastic! Must do in Seoul
We booked this on a whim the evening before and I’m so glad we did! We had so much fun and Helen is such a patient and encouraging teacher. It took around 1hr 15m and you get to keep your stamp at the end. Easy to find although there are quite narrow stairs up to the studio on the third floor. Loved it, would recommend!

This is the best keepsake and experience. Building something with your hands that has such culture meaning was so much fun. I highly recommend taking both classes to have the experience and the keepsakes.
